I did one like this several years ago. Verizon confirmed the cancellation and then sent me to collections for $80. Was still on my credit report this year, although I was told I won the dispute and it was removed. I won't be doing it again.

Yes. I have a spare last time these were on sale cheap. No sim card, just wifi calling with google voice. My google voice is connected to this and my other main phone, so it's like having a second phone with free wifi calling I can leave in my shop without having to remember to bring it back in the house.

Nope, soft pull, was worth it for me. OP is somewhat misleading to include $40 activation fee as part of total price since cancelling within 3 days removes that from total cost so phone is actually $40 cheaper than OP makes it seem as long as service is cancelled within 3 days.
You are probably looking at the staff modified post (after it hit FP) as the 'Original Post' quotes the payable amount as $26.99 before taxes only and also clearly describes tittle process of getting the activation fee revoked:

Unlocked Motorola Moto G Power 2024 5G 128GB/8GB Blue + New Line Activation with Verizon $26.99 BestBuy

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/m...ku/6572573

Steps to follow to get the deal:

1. Go to Bestbuy Listing for Motorola Moto G Power 2024 5G 128GB/8GB Blue and choose "We'll help to connect this with carrier".
2. Choose Verizon and then new number (you can also choose to transfer a number but given that you are going to cancel it first thing new number is better).
3. Go through checkout and fill out verizon related info. Note down the account PIN you used as you might need it later during cancellation.
4. You can pick the phone up in the store. After pickup, setup verizon account with the new phone number.
5. Chat with CS to cancel the account. Activation fee is waived if cancelled within 3 days.
6. The phone is factory unlocked, sealed and ready to be used with any provider.

Personally, I don't do these activation deals at Best Buy but people have had better experiences. If you can make it work for yourself, its a great device for $27, especially being unlocked.

If it is soft pull, 100% worth it. If anyone who bought recently, please confirm.
No, OP posted at $26.99 and it was changed when it hit FP.

Edit - If Verizon denies to cancel the activation, does anyone know whether we can use this phone on Tracfone or Visible?

Yes, as mentioned activation does not really matter, the phone is already unlocked.

Make sure to request the cancellation only after you have received/picked up the phone from Best Buy.

I ordered to pickup and now see "Your mobile order from Best Buy may be delayed." Is this normal?
Edit: They cancelled my order claiming pre-activation is not successful.

Ordered on 3/3 - $30 (27+tax), picked-up on 4/1 and same day popped in the VW sim card on another phone, called once and noted down the number.
Created new account in Verizon and chatted with agent. Mentioned I need to cancel my line and invoke my rights to have a refund of both activation fees and monthly bill when returning line within 3 days of activation.
Agent asked reason to cancel, I mentioned buyers remorse and within a minute line was canceled and I was able to login under deactivated account section in Verizon and see everything reversed.

Sweet deal $30 for this phone seems to be totally worth it. It even updated to android 15.

Update: I called 1-888-483-7200 (verification line). They pulled up my application with my SSN (bestbuy doesn't give you a credit or application number), and got transferred to the credit team. Credit team pulled up my application using my full name. It turns Verizon does a soft pull only the first time you apply. My credit was frozen and their soft pull failed. The second time, even though I had my account on thaw, they duplicated my previous rejection. Weird system. The phone rep kindly re-pulled for me in real time and I was able to make the purchase thru best buy immediate after.

"Okay, now let's create your Verizon account.
Your wireless carrier has declined your application. Please contact your carrier or visit your local Best Buy store."

--

Anyone else getting this message? I doubt it's an issue with my credit rating, which is very good. I got the same message when I tried a month ago. I did thaw Experian this time, and still the same message. Wonder if there's any "ID verification" issue because I'm doing this through best buy, like my address or mismatch in middle name or something.

wonder if they'd check TU report? got declined as all 3 reports are frozen... not sure which particular report needs to be thawed?
