I used to work at REI and did have a customer renounce the membership and it was a WHOLE thing.

Needless to say as usual, their Outlet deals are hit or miss savings wise and you're likely better off to check in store in the Re-use section (Old Garage Sale), for deeper discounts. Also, don't feel like you can't ask for more off on these items if they have been sitting there for more than a month. Worst case the worker says no, best case a manager overrides the price to a bit lower to just get the item sold.
