It's a syn blend, so API SP is fairly good. Don't run this on timing chains or turbos. You want an API SQ full synthetic there.

This is good for older design engines with some seal drips/leaks however.

For most, sure. For Direct Injected variants I would use a full synthetic SP, and at that point an SQ oil is only a couple bucks more.

It's not for the engine, it's to keep the injectors from clogging. Clogged injectors on a DI are so expensive, a few bucks every 7500 miles is worth it.

Most modern cars fail due to bad sensors or electrical problems. Engine wear occurs because of contaminants. Most contaminants come from the intake air. The engine uses 14.7 part air to 1 part fuel. Make sure there is no air leak at the intake side. An old air filter removes more contaminants, so don't change filter every 5K unless sunlight cannot be seen across the filter element.

Second is combustion byproducts. The oil keeps the contaminants in suspension, but you need to drain the oil to remove the contaminants. Old oil may provide adequate lubrication, but the suspended contaminants will accelerate engine wear.

Marketing works because the lack of knowledge.

What does oil have to do with DI injectors?

I was about to say - is it worth saving a few dollars for synthetic blend?

Normal price is ~$26 for Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic, not counting sales.

Oil can clog the inlet on DI cars since oil goes into the pistons that fill with fuel. Direct injectors hence are prone to dirty oil clogging the outlet, requiring injector replacement.

It's literally called oil contamination.

It can make sense if you have an older engine with seal leaks. Full synthetic has less grit and can leak out of seals more easily.

Of course, if your engine can handle a thicker synthetic and not leak, that's the first option to try.

You're just buying time, but an old engine will probably see this modern oil as a luxury experience.

I post helpful information that should be shared. Troll determination rejected. Duly noted and disregarded.

This. Newer API SQ oils use newer detergents that can absorb that with less trauma. Less pulling of timing chain, less catastrophic failure. Same thing with turbochargers, the industry's cheat code to MPG ratings.

There are a lot of older engines out there, and this is a solid choice for them. I don't want people to think this oil is junk. But yeah, modern cars benefit from the latest oil spec. This time around, a lot actually.
