Sounds like you've been living under a rock. AI has skyrocketed prices of storage and RAM.

These are shuckable so thats a bonus. If you subtract the APC from the price youre looking at $15/tb (i think ideally you want $10-12/tb for shucked drives) which for this size is pretty good. Doubt youll be able to sell the battery backup for that much but not a bad thing to have on hand.

Um...........am I missing something? Not long ago I got a 12 or 14tb drive for like a hundred. This is 4tb and it's nearly $150? What's with the external battery? I've never seen this kind of combo before.

You are missing that it is a bundle with a UPS that retails for $85.

more specifically, mfgrs. shifted away from consumer storage and ram to commercial designs for AI. We saw the same thing during the ammo shortage when .22LR was unobtainable while mfgrs. shifted to gov contracts. Took a while for the market to catch up.

I cannot wait for the AI gold rush to be over, and all the leftover new and used hard drives to hit the market when the supply chain reacts to the shock.

Works for me. Needed space for my Channels DVR and wanted to put that server on a separate UPS away from the rest of my networking equipment. The price of any hardware is crazy now.

This is for backups. camelcamelcamel shows the avg price for the drive is $142. The drive is shuckable and with the battery, it's really not that bad of a deal considering how things are.

Would this be a good option for getting a Plex server started for Ripping Blu-rays (standard and 4K)?

Seems like the 4TB would be enough, but maybe there are better device and size options i should be looking at.
