From knifereview website: 4Cr13 is a Chinese stainless steel, also known as 420J2 in the US, recognized for its high chromium content and reliable corrosion resistance. While it doesn't match the hardness or edge retention of premium steels, it performs well in everyday use and is often found in affordable kitchen knives and budget-friendly EDC knives. Its ease of sharpening and low maintenance make it a practical choice for users who value convenience and cost-efficiency.

Another steel worth mentioning is 8Cr13MoV, which is also popular in budget knives. Compared to 4Cr13, it contains more carbon and vanadium, giving it higher hardness and better edge retention, while still maintaining good corrosion resistance.

Just an FYI in case no one knew material characteristics. Smilie

How does 4cr13 compares to 316l? As a layman 316l is what I see referred to most.

That seems a little low end even for Kershaw. I love mine, all of them in the same price point but all are 8cr13.

I have this knife, really enjoy the shape and feel of it. I love my leeks but their tip is so delicate that its nice to know this one will be more durable. Several of the small screws backed out and fell out of the frame leaving my Misdirect where I cannot use it and at $20 its just not worth any warranty dealings.

I have this knife, 4Cr13 (aka 420J2) is much softer than you'd think.

I have a Kai Folding Personal Steak Knife with the same steel (420J2) and it loses quite a bit of the edge after one steak (due to the steel hitting and cutting along the plate). The first cut glides through the steak, but you can feel the edge isn't as sharp on the last cut.

For $20, it's a really nice letter opener and box cutter, but I wouldn't expect much else out of it. I do love the assisted open, it's very satisfying.
