I prefer this because the kids don't have to wait to charge when the battery dies. I just swap out rechargeable AA batteries that I originally bought when I needed an endless supply of batteries for their baby toys. Plus, I've found that for products that we'll only use a few times a year, like during camping or outdoor activities, built in rechargeable batteries don't last when not used often and then you're forced to replace the whole product because the rechargeable batteries are not replaceable.I'd rather keep the product for years and just use rechargeable AA/AAA batteries.

The Motorola TALKABOUT T110 and T114 are nearly identical FRS walkie-talkies within the T110 series, sharing 22 channels, a 16-mile range (mountain-to-valley), easy pairing, and no IP weather rating. The primary difference is aesthetic; the T110 typically features blue/white or green/white, while the T114 features white/blue. Both are ideal for simple, short-range communication.
Wonder why they're priced differently.... if both are the same sand the color

Likely at night in the middle of nowhere you'd get that range. All local conditions dependent pretty much.
NOPE .. not at all ... the rule of thumb for that FREQ is 1 watt = 1 mile in open area ...

They advertise "16 miles"… but reality is:

Neighborhood: ~0.5 mile
Open terrain: 1–2 miles
Perfect line-of-sight: maybe more

Power = range.
0.5W = short range.

It's a toy/light-duty radio, not serious comms

I have read they are cracking down on illegal use much more than they used to. Mostly because of abuse, and idiots who use illegal, overpowered equipment. But, as long as a person is not being abusive, or causing trouble for others, I don't believe they would be too concerned about you.
Oh yeah, I'm sure if you're an asshole and constantly doing it often from the same exact location, you'll eventually attract some sort of attention, but if you're out in the mountains using a 5w with removable antenna on GMRS or FRS channels once in awhile, you'll be fine. Two or three years ago, I searched through a lot of reddit posts and the only thing I found was if you were operating on HAM channels without a HAM license, then those nerds will track you down, turn you into the FCC, and then you'll get a letter or visit, but never found any posts about the GMRS or FRS issues without the $35 license, or using a Baofeng with removable antenna.

I use rechargeable batteries, not a big deal, and I've used them hunting for 5-6 hours before batteries need to be swapped.

You can get rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, nothing new! WHY would you want a proprietary manufacturer rechargeable battery? I use Amazon rechargeables and they work great, have some AA and AAA 3+ years old still working great and cheap.

I'm not sure why there's so much discussion about the 16 miles being in ideal conditions. It literally says that on the listing. 16 miles is Mountain to valley, 3 miles in open water, and up to 1 mile in a neighborhood

I think it's useful. I don't see this on the listing, only mentions of 16 miles. The first mention of the various ranges (which someone else posted, helpfully) is if you click the Specs tab, click the "Full Specs HERE" link, scroll past several references to 16 mile range down al the way to the bottom where it's mentioned in 10 point font (versus at least 16 point for the rest of the page).

Look at the pictures on Slickdeals. The stats I posted are in the second one

I had to build a custom 10ft pole antenna to get 3 miles in my neighborhood on my 5watt GMRS radio. So these FRS radios are probably more like 1 mile range in a suburban neighborhood. Even if it's clear line of site wattage limits it. Also keep in mind nothing you say on these is even close to being private.
I use them most often when working with someone on a roof or at a campground but they don't replace a phone in most situations.
