prolly just sloppy listing but the specs say "Wi-Fi Transmission Standard 802.11ac" which is Wifi 5.

While the device runs OpenWRT, it is a proprietary version---the Flint 3/3e run a Broadcom chipset which is not officially supported by OpenWRT.

Why is the random brand being advertised especially from AliExpress? I wouldn't trust this to run my network.
GL.inet is not a random brand, its actually the maker of probably one of the most popular travel routers in the USA. While their new home offerings are newer to the market, the brand has been around for over 10+ years and is extremely popular due to its embrace of OpenWRT.

That being said good price for wifi 7 but I have not looked at benchmark on this device to see how good it actually is.

GL.iNet is actually a pretty popular brand due to OpenWRT support. For long-term use, routers that support OpenWRT are best because manufacturers will only support routers for so many years. Once routers reach EoL, you won't receive any security patches/updates, leaving your network potentially vulnerable. The NSA actually sent out a warning about this just a few days ago.

Also, there aren't any consumer WiFi routers made in the US AFAIK. Google, Netgear, Ubiquiti, etc., all produce them in China and Vietnam.

Gl.iNet is a part of my standard travel kit. Their tethering functionality is pretty great with the right phone setup. And with T-Mobile - magenta max qci 6 unlimited premium data "on the phone" and a slate travel router I have no issues with internet access. Their flint 2 is a failover for my home network and a fat pipe in my OMR setup.

I'm interested in this to see what I'd gain or lose vs my flint 2.

Which makes the whole decision by GL.iNet to use a non-supported Broadcom chip for the Flint 3 so odd. It completely nullifies the EoL support argument because we're now fully at the mercy of GL supporting their fork for the Flint 3/3e. Once they decide to go EoL, it's just as screwed as any other proprietary OS router.

Completely agree and feels like a major step backwards. I heard it was because MediaTek came out with WiFi 7 later and GL.iNet just wanted a WiFi 7 router. Better to stick with the Flint 2 for now, unless you really need WiFi 7 or 4 extra 2.5Gbps ports.

FLint2 has been amazing! Skipping the 3 as I feel it's a step back for my needs, but I'm excited to see what they come up with for the 4.

Not true. 3e is powered by Qualcomm. It's listed in the official website's spec page.

Yeah, my Flint 2 is great. The coverage is so good that I don't need any mesh routers anymore. I've got mine set up in the middle of my single-level home, and I get full coverage throughout my home, plus coverage over my entire 1/4 acre lot.

The Flint 2 is 4x4 MU-MIMO on both its 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands vs 2x2 on the Flint 3's tribands. Unless your use case desires all 2.5ghz ports or maybe faster 6ghz speeds for a smaller set of devices, the Flint 2 will likely provide better coverage for a higher number of devices.
