To be sure, this is not a smoking deal so I realize it's worth the wait for the right tool. Also, this looks like their older style, so maybe there are meaningful improvements?

I was thinking this would be night and day if its close to mowers.
If you balance it correctly, which isn't hard, the 4ah battery added to the trimmer itself really isn't bad. I tried it with a 6ah that I use for the mower, now THAT was hard to balance and I could feel it. I wouldn't recommend it.
To be fair I haven't used the 18v, but the 40v gets it done and isn't a strain on me.
This is a good deal, I wouldn't let the weight hold you back unless you've got real medical issues.
The carbon fiber brushless expandit competes with / beats gas weed eaters.
If you have a urban/sub-urban house on your <1/4 acre, you don't need 40V trimmer 18V is fine - unless you already are using the 40V pushmower and want to stay on one system, then go for it.
Expandit adds perfect options for your avg. homeowner - edger, tree trimmer saw, blower (don't bother), triller, etc.
