Just wanted to add a data point.

This worked for me today in Texas for an S26+.

I went to Walmart and bought the Moto G 2025 64gb, turned it on and got to the home screen, went to spectrum and traded it in.

Spectrum had to select "Other" for carrier and I got the $400 off plus $705 for the trade in. It seems like taxes were on the price of the phone minus the trade in value, so taxed on $395 at 8.25% taxes were $32.58.

In total I paid $27.57 to Spectrum (1100-400-705=-5 +32.58 tax)

On top of that I paid Walmart $32.35.

So all in was $59.92.

It's instant in the spectrum stores. Online it takes a few weeks.

I think this is one of the cheapest, easiest to purchase phone that qualifies for $705.

That's what chat told me. But when I called spectrum they said you can't apply credits to a CC. They will only stay on the account

It's clear there is a misalignment or politics between the physical store division, online, and customer service (phone). I can confirm that chat will let you refund the credit back to the credit card.

I'm in SC. While the Spectrum website also charges tax on the full price if you order online for us in SC, completing the trade-in at a physical store in SC reduces the sales tax (just like the original poster in TX mentioned). I just went in store this morning in SC and confirm this in-store tax reduction specifically applies to SC only not NC.South Carolina (SC): Under South Carolina Code Section 12-36-90, the value of secondhand property transferred to a vendor as a trade-in is excluded from the taxable "gross proceeds of sales." If the trade-in is processed at the register, you only pay tax on the $400 difference.North Carolina (NC): North Carolina is the outlier. N.C. General Statute ยง 105-164.3 explicitly defines the taxable "sales price" by stating, "The amount of any credit for trade-in is not a reduction of the sales price." Therefore, in NC, you are legally required to pay sales tax on the full $1,400, regardless of your $1,000 trade-in.
That's helpful. So no one messed up and it's just how it is.

Can I use this offer to upgrade an existing line (free line) I already have with Spectrum?
I was on the same boat and followed this. You do not need to upgrade the line. My suggestion is "avoid online process" as you need to ship and wait for the decision and the credits even when you prefer "Pay in full". In-store is immediate credit adjustment and you will be paying the balance(Taxes) only.
Simple steps -
1) Walk-in to the store.
2) Tell the specialist you want to upgrade your device using your current line (even the free one!). You don't need to open a new line or port any numbers.
3) Be sure to tell them you want to pay for the phone in full today. They might default to a 36-month payment plan, so just gently remind them you'd rather settle it all up-front.
4) Since the credits cover the phone, you'll usually only be paying the sales tax (depends on the state). If your old phone has a little extra trade-in value, it might even chip away at that tax bill!
5) Transfer your data to the new device, reset and handover the old device to the store specialist.
6) That's it! You'll walk out with a brand-new S26+ literally at no cost to you.

This morning after confirming on the website that a cracked screen on pos Moto 5G 2025 was worth $3 in trade in. I got $5. There system has to say it. Don't let the salesperson. But of course they have to put it in but you can show them since you can check on the website yourself.
Glad it worked for you. Unfortunately for me, the nice young lady helping me, with a big smile, flat out refused to even check on her computer, in the most polite and friendly tone, I could not ask her again, damn ๐Ÿ˜…

I didn't want to deal with the store and I also wanted the Sky Blue color, so I did mine online. Got the S26+ and will mail my trade in shortly. We'll see how it goes!

For years I've done online only without issues. This year I did 3 in store and 0 online. No issues so far and as long as all 3 phones get unlocked I'll be happy.

Here right now. But the last checkout screen doesn't show any promotional credits, neither the $700 or $400.
Any advice?

Whew, happy to hear that! Definitely an incredible deal. I do have two more Spectrum accounts I could use for future deals, or maybe I'll add a line and do a second one of these.

Time to walk. You can't fix an incompetent rep or store. $1100+tax is not worth the hassle dealing with trying to fix.

Replicated this deal.

Traded in Moto G 2025. Made a mistake of buying prepaid Verizon version and had to pay $35 to activate.

Traded in at spectrum store for S26+
1100 - 400(sale) - 700 (trade in value) = $0

Opted to pay in full.

Paid tax $80 in tax. Also got 1 free year of service (already have spectrum for internet).

All in all I could've done better on the prepaid phone but oh well.

Mine comes tomorrow. Now I think about it, I'm having doubts about them approving the trade-in because of Moto G is carrier locked.
I traded in Att Moto G locked phones in store today with no issue.
