No. $400 off the top. S26 Ultra is $899 already (not $1299). Get a cheap prepaid phone (I have a Galaxy A03s), they'll give me $5 + $700 promo credit = $705. My total will end up being $194 + tax. Pay in full. There's no way I would give up my S25 Ultra in this case. It's worth more selling on the private market.
I did this a month ago and got an S26 the same way. I'll do the S26 Ultra tomorrow on the same line.
I do in-store, though. Sales tax is applied differently (since your trade-in is evaluated and applied right away) as opposed to doing it online and waiting for the promo credit to hit.

No. Pay the cost of the phone at checkout, send in your trade-in and you'll get the FULL value applied to your account. You can call/chat and have that credit applied as a refund to your credit card.
If you're paying in full, there is nothing involving "3 years" at all. It's paid.

Yes! And it's MUCH better. At least in TX and many other states, you make out a lot better because you only pay sales tax on the amount AFTER your trade-in is applied.
If you do it online, you pay the FULL sales tax of the device and the credit is applied later, no sales tax refunded.
I will literally save something like $95 doing it in-store rather than online.

Got 3x s26 ultra today from nyc. It was the same store i went yesterday, they were making up lies like my phone is not eligible for trade in, my account is passed due, then said since i paid for the past due today the system wouldn't allow me to do the trade in. Then she asked what happened yo the 3 s25 that i got last year? Finally, was nice to her. I think she was just lazy. Trade it 3 locked straight talk phone. First trade in A17 on the free line for $230 including tax. Then trade in moto g power 2025 for the $20/line total was $264, finally said they are out of the ultra. I had to ask like 20 times and she said let me ask my manager. She said we have 1 left but its for another customer, we can give it to you if you get the $30 unlimited line. I was like ok thats fine. Came home and changed it to the $20 plan on the app. Got 3 s26u for $760 here in nyc. I also did 3 last year on the same account
How much did you get charged tax on each one I'm also an NYC and they charged me like $52 in tax even though the subtotal on each phone is 200

So I just got back from the store (NYC) and purchased two more phones. Is everybody that's doing this in store getting charged a lot in sales tax? For example my subtotal was $200 but my taxes were about $52 The only way that this makes sense is if you calculate it at the full price of the phone of $1,300 - the $700 trade-in credit. Is this normal?

On the first one that I got it took some time but I was able to call in and have them issue me a $30 service credit I tried that again but they said that they were unable to do so.

Lastly the third line that I got I don't necessarily plan to keep for myself so after 60 days I assume it can be unlocked it's activated they did so in the store is it okay to just leave it turned off in the box for the entire 60 days?

Lol me too with two more. I had previously gotten one and I can use two so I'll have an extra one Plus when my phone broke the other day I bought a used s25 ultra from marketplace so now I can hopefully sell that for the same that I bought it.

They don't seem to understand the concept of overcharging on sales tax I sent this in to them. Texas Tax Code Section 151.007(c)(5), the value of a trade-in accepted as partial consideration at the exact time of sale is explicitly excluded from the taxable 'sales price' it is not legally classified as a post sale payment credit when done in store. Furthermore, if the $400 promotion is a retailer discount rather than a third-party manufacturer rebate, Section 151.007(c)(1) dictates that it also reduces the taxable base. Please escalate this directly to your tax and compliance department. Assessing tax on the gross $1,299.99 price during an in-store, simultaneous trade-in transaction constitutes an overcollection of Texas sales tax
I found the same information for New York which explicitly states that unless it's a third party discount you don't pay taxes on it so since this is a promotion by spectrum it should not be taxed. It does further state though that the buyer is responsible for tax on the actual amount being charged and that the company is responsible for tax on the promotion. So I think what they're doing is kind of shady they're passing that sales tax onto us as we should be responsible for sales tax only on the 200 and they should be responsible for the sales tax on the $400. I don't know if there's any way to fight it on my first line I got them to give me a $30 credit but when I called about the others they shot me down.

6 from one account, 4 from another, 3 from last one (3 ultras and rest are Pluses). Since I'd to convince my friends, I had to get three for them and all 10 are for me.
