Philips Hue's 8K sync box and Bridge are aimed at home theater lighting, with smooth dimming, reliable connection, and a noticeable boost to viewing ambience. The setup fits neatly into an existing Hue system, and Zigbee keeps smart home traffic off Wi Fi. The main hesitation is price, especially versus the $3 per month Hue sync TV app, white bias lighting, or cheaper alternatives like Govee and HyperHDR. The app may be limited by TV support and newer LG models. A strong fit if you already live in the Hue ecosystem.
Home theater fans using an OLED TV who want subtle ambient lighting, because it can improve viewing ambience without being a huge visual change.
Buyers who want the cheapest way to get screen-synced lighting, because the hardware price is high enough that some people choose the subscription app or cheaper alternatives instead.
Shoppers who only want a modest home-theater effect, because white bias lighting can deliver eye comfort and scene transitions without the full sync box.
The Sync Box can have slightly better latency, but the difference is reportedly not noticeable for most setups. The app costs $3 per month and can work on multiple supported TVs, while the box is a one-time purchase that becomes cheaper only after years of subscription fees.
This bundle includes the regular Hue bridge, not the Pro hub. The Pro hub is only needed for very large setups with 150+ lights or for lights that use motion-aware features.
Yes. One comment says the original box lasted more than 6 years before dying, and the 8K model is described as a worthwhile upgrade that improves viewing experience and ambience.
Hue is described as strong on smooth dimming and reliable connection. Using the bridge also keeps smart-home traffic on Zigbee instead of adding more clutter to Wi‑Fi.
Man wish this wasn't so expensive. I'm just not sure i would like back lighting with an OLED tv. Seems like it would defeat the purpose. But i guess its all preference. I'm pretty deep into the hue system but this is too pricey to end up not liking it lol.

I have an LG OLED and have wanted one of these for awhile but I didn't like the refresh rate of the original model. I considered the new one but decided the price is outrageous.
I ended up subscribing to their Hue sync TV app.[philips-hue.com] It works just like the sync box. Based on what I've read from users who have tried both products, the sync box may have slightly better latency but the difference is not really all that noticeable. It's only $3 a month but works on multiple TV's (As long as the TV supports it, not all TV's do)
That's the way I'd recommend people go if they are interested in this kind of thing.

I've been wanting to get hue stuff for the longest time. Now i'm in the position to buy it i see that they have an updated product line. Is this their newest hub and sync box?

Which LG OLED tv do you have? I have the C1 although just that as my TV. I see the sync box by itself is on sale for 270. So for $3 a month, it'll take about 7.5 years for the device to match the monthly subscription (assuming they don't raise the price)

That's the catch. I have a c4 and c1. And I think you need at least a c4 to use the sync app with your TV.
I looked at these and eventually decided to just get white bias lighting. Seemed to be the reccomendation for home theater.
So far I like it. It's not a huge difference or anything but it definitely helps keep your eyes adjusted to some light so you're not blinded when switching to a bright scene from a very dark one.
Medialight is what I got. It's pretty cheap and has works great.

This is the newest sync box with their regular, non-Pro hub. The newer Pro hub is only necessary if you've got a lot (150+) lights, or if you have lights that support the motion-aware features.
I've been wanting this for a long time but can't commit to this price. I got a bunch of govee lights and it's sync box for less than this. I'm satisfied

It's worth the money. Upgrades the viewing experience and ambience 100%. I've had the original box for 6+ years and I think it just died. Will upgrade to 8K now.
