Used to take two months of active and paid service to get them unlocked but then kind hearted person at Verizon being paid at least six figures that why not file a case with ftc and make it 12 months of active a paid service to ruin it all together for regular customers.

We use a Tracphone $40 per year contract for our home phone/kid phone for the last few year. It always works perfectly and is a great backup. Crazy you get a usable (slow) cell phone for $40.

I purchased this exact deal a few months ago and everything went smooth. The 4GB of ram is def limiting, however. I got the A17 as well from Metro a while back as well, and the A16 seems to handle more multitasking than the A17 despite the fact that it should be the other way around since the A17 is newer.

Verdict - Absolute steal for a backup phone, but I probably would never use it as my main device due to ram restrictions. I do like also that it comes with 6 years of updates.

I bought this deal and can confirm it is a much better phone - no problems multitasking and after a year it can unlock from the TracFone network. Motorola does not come with the six years of updates, however. Otherwise, if you are ok with sticking with a less secure phone come 2027, the performance is almost better than my main phone (the moto g stylus 24).

The G Power is a better phone (other than the display), but the A16 has better software support / longevity.

The 2024 G Power only gets security updates for 1 more year and then you're running an insecure device.

The A16 will get 6 years of updates.

That said the memory difference is massive. If this A16 had 6GB of RAM it'd be more tolerable.

If I were just getting the device for a kid I would get the G Power 2024 as they'll want the faster device for games and stuff. If for myself as a backup decice, the A16 for the software support for online banking security.

Took 3 hours to do numerous updates. Now it's on Android 16 and feels a lot slower sadly.
