They had the 18TB for $280 not even a week ago. I scored two of them.

This isn't artificial demand. It's here to stay and lower price ain't coming back for at least 5 years, IF!

Dang, I remember getting 20TB in 2022 for $184 lol..
Rampant inflation? I got a 20TB also in 2024 for $295, not a terrible price. Over $500 now.

Suggestion to the people who want to spend their time reminiscing about hard drive prices: Create a Discord server called "This Old Hard Drive" and you can take the conversation over there.

Man, this is a bad deal. But it's probably the best it's gonna be even in the midterm. As others have said these kind of prices are gonna hang around for a while.
For price reference i picked up a 20tb for this price in nov last year; losing 20% capacity for the same $ is sad times, but here we are.

Really hate that I missed out on the EasyStore 18TB for $200 like 2 and half years ago at BestBuy. Never saw it come back again ever since then.

For future ref? Don't forget, these Google AI "answers" can come from anywhere, even 4-5 year old h/w forum/reddit posts. So what's inside today may not necessarily match what was, it's better to check out some recent posts on Reddit or elsewhere.

Price should be going down, that how technology works, but it seem like they blaming on AI so they can jack these prices up as high as they can, and there always sucker can't wait and pull the trigger to buy it. Spend ur money wisely or else u be the next sucker
That's not how it works unfortunately.

Seagate and WD have confirmed that they sold their entire 2026 stock of hdd's and looks like it extends into 2027, to the FANG's that are competing amongst each other and have the money to spend.

Us consumers are rounding errors in terms of their sales, and when the bubble pops, sure, we are either getting good deals on recertified enterprise drives etc, ... or not.

I wouldn't recommend buying now unless one had to.

But prices are not going down in the near future by all accounts.

This is essentially the same cost per TB as the Seagate 22TB that was available a few weeks ago for $389.

I'd be all over this if my server hadn't died. Of course it's the RAM that is very expensive right now...
