Still a good camera but if you can afford the a6700 I think it's worth the extra.

The sensor on this was already old when the a6400 came out; it's the same sensor as the prior generation (a6300 and a6500) and FSI (Front-Side Illuminated) because Sony refused to put a BSI (Back-Side Illuminated) sensor on APS-C until the a6700 and its variants. You get a noticeable boost to dynamic range and lowlight performance. The a6700 also uses the same battery as the full-frame cameras which lasts much longer than the older ones the a6400 uses.

Still, the a6400 is an excellent hobbyist/starter camera.

I have been debating Sony vs Nikon vs Cannon for my next camera. I really have no lenses or accessories that I need to worry about, so not locked into a platform. I had liked the coloring in my Nikon, but the camera is old and was an earlier digital camera. I would be making a significant technology jump with any of these newer cameras. I was looking to get a mirrorless camera and I was hoping for full frame. I may spend more money to make sure I can take good videos. My film camera was Minolta, which Sony purchased. Served me wellRecommendations?
I like the Nikon Z50 or Z50 II. Get it refurbished from Nikon with the 16-50, 50-250 kit lenses. They are actually pretty decent. Later add specialty lenses. Sony has better APC lens supports but Nikon is catching up. You an also use all Nikon/3rd party -F mount lenses with an FTZ Adaptor.
Nikon Z50 is more ergonomic, two control wheels for manual, better pic colors imo then Sony A6xxx.
The Z50 II has better AF than the Z50. I am using a Z50 but I back button focus. I have used an A6600 as well. I preferred the Z50.

The stores started to take returned items to resell them as new. Some things were obviously used and on the shelf in taped-closed retail packaging being sold at the full new price, but others, in their cages, they'd take CPUs, memory, hard drives, etc back as returns and when you'd buy a new item, they'd go to the inventory cages and bring out the used ones.

Even if this was seen as okay for some items, they weren't very thorough with testing returned merchandise, and would also resell defective goods, for full retail price. Many components were in bulk packaging, so you couldn't even look at the boxes to see if it was repackaged - physically you may find traces of thermal compound, some slightly bent pins, see that a hard drive had some power on hours, etc on the "new" items you purchased at the store.

Thanks for the advice. My daughter might have the Z50 or at least a Z series. I will check them out, My D series has just gotten too old and the low light focusing is terrible now. Been in the market for a number of years, but it is just recently where Nikon is really making some significant improvements in the mirrorless cameras. Thanks again!

Add to slickness- bought with an AMEX business credit card that had an offer for 13% cash back. Dell has it back to regular price, but I did a price match with BandH.

SUGGESTION: Anyone interested in this camera should first visit Greentoe and make an offer. There is a good chance you could purchase this older camera for significantly less than the $848 plus tax amazon would charge.
