Google Pixel Fold is drawing interest as a surprisingly capable foldable with a big inner display, but it is also notably heavy. The open box listing adds some appeal at this price, and the unlocked model may matter for bootloader tinkering and alternative software. The main cautions are short security support on some units, uncertainty around warranty coverage, and reports of open box wear ranging from scratches to inner screen defects. A solid option if the foldable form factor matters more than long support or pristine condition.
Common Questions (5)
The original Pixel Fold appears to have two model variants, and the unlockability depends on which one you get. The GA04102-US5G is described as the likely unlockable model, while the GA04108-US is described as the carrier-shipped model; an unlockable bootloader would allow LineageOS.
A warranty is strongly advisable because the inner folding screen can develop defects like dead pixels or a visible dot. One reported insurance claim was refunded, while another required sending the phone in rather than keeping it.
The Pixel Fold is reported to get security updates until 2028, which is five years from release. Another comment says support ends at the end of this year, so the update window is a key thing to verify before buying.
Condition can vary by unit. One arrived with scratches on the front screen and camera bezel plus a bump in the inner-screen crease, while another was described as like new.
Yes. It is described as quite heavy, which is noticeable but expected for a foldable phone.
