Ego has a discharge feature to keep the longevity of the battery healthy. If I remember correctly if it hasn't been used for a month it will discharge to 50%

Not too bad, also looks like 5.0AH is similar $/ah, $199 shipped & sold by Amazon.

Usually better to wait for deals on tools + battery, but I don't think many of their tool deals other than string trimmer or blower come with this easy-to-lift battery. So, if you already have those tools, this is a pretty good choice for a backup.

I got a 5.0Ah Waitley battery for my ego tools. It was $90, so maybe worth comparing here. A bit heavier than Ego's 2.5Ah battery, but subjectively it doesn't last as long as my Ego 5.0Ah batteries and it doesn't have a charge-level indicator.

I've dewalt/green works/craftsman/ryobi batteries. This is the only battery that looses charge really fast when not in use and out of the equipment, although once charged it lives up to the expectation.

I've owned an Ego lawnmower for 6 years now and my 5.0AH battery has about 20 minutes less charge. I've been waiting for a deal for a backup battery and here it is.

I just returned my new Waitley wouldn't power up for more than a few seconds.

How long have you had yours and do you think the over all "shelf" life will be nearly as good as a real Ego? ( I may try again)

I wouldn't rely on it. I'll try starting with it on my next mow to see how much it gets compared to my Ego 5.0Ah batteries and report back. May be a few days, sorry.

I tend to dedicate my 10Ah Ego to the backyard and a 5Ah Ego to the front. I'm not one to run them down all the way to noticeably lower performance in a session, so if one gets down to 1 bar I stop. Gotta go by vibes with the Waitley in that regard.

So, how come other batteries don't have those features? and if how does it help compared to others?
