About 35 years ago one of my dad's brothers, the first in our family to travel to the US for work, got me the black Casio calculator watch as a gift on his return. I was 10/11 year old. Meant the world to me. Still have it ☺️

Probably close to 20 years ago, I offered to buy a kid a watch. She said she didn't need one as she had her phone. She's now 30 & still has no watch. Man, I remember getting a watch when I was about 10 or so, in the '50s, & it was a big, big deal back then. Now, not so much, so I suppose perhaps watches ain't selling like hot cakes these days.

I think this shows your age. I am buying one to ditch the phone and for nostalgia.

I have a phone - and a watch that doesn't need to be taken off every single day to charge, nor be taken out of a pocket to tell me the time nor be taken off to go swimming or have a shower kthxbai
so you have a watch like this? this is not a smartwatch, has a 5 year battery and is waterproof. kthxbai

A child had a phone in 2006?

I had one of the original models of this watch, when I was in 6th Grade (maybe like 1990 or so). It was like having a shiny new iPhone back then and people would stop me to see it... I actually kept it in great condition, and I even kept the box, receipt and instructions.

I just sold it recently, and let me tell you I was stunned so many people had interest in it... Let's just say I made some money.

Yep. I questioned that w/ her mother at the time, and her response was that she wanted her child to be able to call her if ever there was a problem. Looking back, that made sense.
