Seems like that would give the user an extra measure of control for more precise, accurate cuts. Trying to think of a downside that would favor the more common top handle design.

A tool channel reviewer said that it provides better control than the normal D handle jigsaw. I am have a D handle and wondering if I should get this.

Interesting. But Ryobi dissappointed me in their prior regular version of the jigsaw that would not cut on a line. Dumped it and got a Milkwaukee which works way better. My guess is that since both are owned by the same company, Ryobi copied the Milkwaukee design since the specs are so similar. And so is the price, which means if you have the M12 batteries, get the Milwaukee. If you only have Ryobi, maybe take a risk, test it out before the return window and be prepared to return it. For that reason of possibly returning it, I would buy it from Home depot.

Thanks for the information.
Based on that info, I would buy this if I used a jigsaw that much.
But I rarely use the cordless jigsaw that o have now. Most my jobs I find it easier to other tools.

When I do use the Jigsaw, it is to make a curve or finish a cut to make a square after using a circular saw for the primary cut. So basically I used the jigsaw for about 1% of the time and for a quick 30second cut. Interesting tool but don't think I am in the market for the cost roi to benefit from this atm.

I work with circular saw and jigsaw the same way you described too. I generally grab a discount Ryobi even when I don't use it as much. I am more afraid of not having it when I need it than having it and not need it. This Ryobi price though is pushing my envelop so I am still very on the fence about it.

I looked up the difference between D and barrel handles, because inquiring minds want to know, like me. This is based on DeWalt and Milwaukee brands. The big difference is that the D grip has a trigger, which has variable speed control. It also has a speed dial, but still can use the trigger to control the speed. Barrel grip does not have a trigger, so the speed is controlled by the dial, which you can manipulate while it's on, but not convenient. Otherwise same power and functionality. It will depend on your preference. Big note, as there is a big difference between the DeWalt and Milwaukee barrel grips. To angle the cut, the DeWalt has a lever to unlock, change the angle, lock it in place. The Milwaukee barrel, you have to take the shoe cover off, unlock with an allen wrench, angle, allen wrench to lock in place. Hopefully I was looking at recent reviews, which is what I looked for. There is that one big difference between DeWalt and Milwaukee barrel grips.
I've heard horrible reviews on Ryobi's cheap jigsaw. I realize this is different level, not just grip style. I might still consider Milwaukee at Way Source in the other post. Either way, pretty good power tool deals currently.

731 Woodworks on youtube really likes this, fwiw.
(I grant, a rando on SD telling you a rando on youtube likes soemthing isn't worth much, but you can look it up if you want Big Grin )
