I find it so ridiculous that a company that is shutting down stores and broke is literally buying eBay for $54 billion. That's just as ridiculous as Sky Dance buying HBO and Warner Brothers for 115 billion when they're only worth 18 billion make it make sense
It turns out; the CEO Cohen, gets an insane pay package if he gets the company to 100B in value. He's trying to buy his way there.

Oh how I miss the days of going to one of the multiple Gamestop stores within 10 miles to buy 4 games for 20, maybe 2 which I liked. Then proceeding to the next location to find 2 more I liked and returning the 2 I didn't like. I doubt that would be possible these days, even with multiple locations nearby. Only 1 location I know of has closed it's doors.

They're not buying eBay for $54 billion. It's just that they made an unsolicited offer at that price.

what's their obsession with the numbers 4 and 20 lol
It's pretty simple math and a coincidence in this case. It's just a common marketing tactic to make it appear like you're getting half off of pre-owned games (only if you get the highest cost eligible) but forcing you to buy four of them. Four for $10 or Four for $20.

Unless you can find some games that originally retailed for $20 or less, good luck even FINDING four games under that price worth buying. How is this even a deal, much less a Frontpage one?
If they were smart they would have cleared these out before last weeks buy 6 get 30% off sale.

Yes, Gamestop actually has over 9 Billion in liquid cash. They have a guaranteed loan for 20 Billion if they can close the deal. So they are offering Ebay half in cash and the other half in stock that they also own free and clear. So financially, even though they closed stores and sales were down, they can still afford it. They are sitting good at the moment with their cash reserve. It may actually happen.
Smells like Sears Kmart

Yeah, the meme stock helped them a few years ago, but I don't see them lasting long-term. The store experience is a joke -- it's just walls of Funko POPs that people don't want anymore, trading cards at scalper prices, and games that don't have the original cases. And their "pro" membership keeps getting more expensive while they remove benefits.
Yeah and Gamestop employees are rude kids saying stupid crap like 'do you have a shrink wrap fetish?' when you complain about the fake NEW games they took home and used.
I hate everything about GS. They pay their employees shi# money, take your games for few bucks and sell them back for more.

Good luck finding something $5 and under that isn't a yearly sports game.

The trick is to work the Gamestop system like the stock market. Buy low and sell high (or high-ish).

When other retailers like Kmart and Sears existed I amassed a TON of credit at Gamestop for pennies on the dollar. Heck. I flipped $150 worth of BOGO sale games from Blockbuster to Best Buy to pay for my first HDTV and anything else that year.

If you work the system right with buying cheap games and flipping them back during the right promotions you can do the same.

The clerk can look up how many games they have that qualify for the sale. They don't always have everything out on the floor.

Their CEO is an edgelord scumbag manchild in the mold of a certain other CEO of Twitter and Tesla. Though to be fair, these particular deals long predate the "heehee $420.69" ones. As an aside, this is a decent deal although you're likely to only find previous-gen games at this price.
Look at what he did with chewy ? He can be whatever he wants to be as long as hes making the company profitable. I mean look at GameStop's last few earnings and you'll see he's already turning GameStop around

Have you ever actually looked at their balance sheet or done any research on how closing underperforming stores has actually made them much more profitable? They are FAR from broke. I recommend not blindly believing the MSM headlines when it comes to money or power.
