DO NOT buy this over a M5 Air base model at $950 IMHO ($850 open box at BestBuy) 16gb/512SSD worth the higher price for newer faster CPU/GPU and 512SSD
If youre a super low basic user and don't use a lot of storage this M4 is a good/decent deal. after MacOS is fully installed it usually takes up 30+GB on the 256 SSD and you only have a little over 200GB free on the SSD.
My $0.02
Waiting for something might not be the best move. Especially if it's from a company that does NOT telegraph their upcoming releases until they deem it fit to announce. So "maybe" it has oled, "maybe" it has touchscreen -- or maybe not. There's absolutely, genuinely zero guarantee of anything.
Get what you need, when you need it.

Drive 30 minutes to a Costco which had 5 ....paid for one and then the person who gets it for you from their storage said they were all sold out.
Yes, I have a M3P-MBP and a M2U-Studio but the Neo is fantastic as a cheap little $500 portable Mac. As long as one doesn't need to do tasks > 60 seconds or so (read: professional photo processing, professional video processing) and one can keep gaming expectations in firm check, it's a simply fantastic machine - zero fan noise, great keyboard, great trackpad, great screen, good speakers, plus full Messages integration, all for $499 plus tax. Unbeatable. Finance for a year to get 50% off interest rate as 'cash back' (kinda, due to TVM), and 3% Apple Cash Back with Apple Card.

edit: I got it, you can use the costco app, select warehouse section, then select search warhouse inventory, then use the code 1814012, after searching, there will also show a button to show search nearby
Have you tried the Neo? With day to day tasks, it works just fine, and does normal everyday things the same speed as the other M-based Macs.

The Neo represents a much better deal - it gets people into a great Mac.
It's only if you need and can use the extra 8GB (and a CPU bump) that the Air even enters into the picture. And one must weigh if that's worth $200. And a Costco membership.
