The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
In summary, same device available via:
Metro for $65 ... auto unlocks in 365 days, continuing the service after 1st month/initial payment not required
Total Wireless for $40 ... will never unlock unless paid for 1 whole year of service (which is not worth - better use case is to use it as wifi only or cheaper service via rebranding to tracfone etc, ymmv)

I purchased this moto stylus for my mom to use with the Total Wireless $25 per month unlimited phone/internet. However, she is required to port her current phone and number to TW to sign up for this $25/m deal.
After she signs up for the TW service with her current phone should she transfer the service to the moto stylus without having the stylus previously activated under my name? Or should I activate the moto stylus then end my service or let it run out before giving it to my mom to use with her new TW service?

They sent me the order, and I received an email. Then, a few days later, I checked the tracking number and saw that they had returned the order. I didn't receive any emails about it.

If you have a free UPS account it's easier to track since it will show in their system. If UPS doesn't show as pending it hasn't finished processing yet.
