It may be auto-applying, then giving the error when you try to add it again manually. Check whether the price shows correctly after selecting your payment method. Otherwise, try activating the promo code by clicking here [amazon.com] instead of entering it. It still seems to be working for me.

As far as avoiding bubbles, it's all about keeping the screen absolutely dust-free between having had the screen cleaned and peeling/applying the protector.
I put on a SmartDevil branded protector for my daughter's 17e without using the applicator, which I think is flawed: the underside of the plastic peel is more than likely re-introducing specks of dust to a clean phone screen.
If you think I may have used the applicator incorrectly, please share. I'd love to know
