FYI, staples now charges $2.99 to recycle batteries (and more for some other electronics). Apparently, the fee is waved if you buy batteries in the same transaction. If you're doing this deal and need to get rid of batteries, this is a good opportunity.

In the terms, I'm not seeing anything about not using the in-store "price match guarantee" on this offer. That's one way to maximize savings when playing the Staples Rewards Points game.

You can price match, totally independent of the rewards offer. you get what you pay OOP for the batteries on the PM.

Is there a limit of one item price match? Last time I did they said it's for just one item per order per day per account

In store that's up to the store's discretion. Typically the cashiers in my store don't enforce any such rule, I just show them the PM price on my phone. If PM'ing to Amazon, must be sold/shipped by AMZ.

Online I believe that's the case, but best way to max out is to PM large size packages that list for $30-50 online to start with if you can only PM ONE SKU.

I thought so, thanks. I can price match 8-packs of Energizer AA and AAA lithium batteries to Best Buy for $19.99 each.
Big savings!

Because they don't give points for recycling them anymore.

HINT: ask Cashier to ring each up at exactly $20, pay $40 vs $39.98. Get $40 in rewards versus $39. They don't round up, they round down.

That is so weird - maybe it's regional? My Staples (CA Bay Area) has 'recycle batteries' as a points earning event each month. Just did it the other day (May 2026). Not only free to recycle batteries but will pay you 500 points (worth $2.50). They give you 500 points once a month for either tech or battery recycling - but the tech or battery recycling is free even if you do it more than once a month (you just won't get more than 500 points total each month). Where we are, I used to recycle batteries with the 'recycle' garbage can (put it in Ziplock bag on top of recycle can) for 'free' battery recycling each month before Staples started offering points for recycling batteries. And often we get groups asking for tech donations (for scrap metal I think) with free pickups and possible income tax deductions.

Yea, appears there are a few states that are exempt (probably state law). I saw a chart that showed which states didn't have charges and it changed based on item (printers, batteries, etc) this change went into effect a few days ago. I'd be surprised if the points earnings continued in those states.

They just changed their policy last Sunday at many Staples stores. My local store was giving people a heads up of the change and were telling people that starting Sunday they will need to charge for battery recycling.
