Ridiculously powerful, lots of use cases, replaced my entire desktop setup with it (TB4 Dock when at home, connected to a 49" Samsung).
Do yourself a massive favor and get G-Helper, don't bother with Asus' bloatware (Armoury Crate and MyAsus). Gives all the necessary features in a tiny and lightweight package, low overhead, and even more controls for undervolting, overclocking, etc. I've got modes setup for completely silent, balanced, and then an overdrive setting.
These price points are a steal, especially considering the RAM scenario right now.
Community Reviews
This open box ASUS ROG Flow Z13 stands out as a compact, very powerful Windows tablet for local AI work and gaming. The 64GB memory and Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 are praised for running large local models, including Qwen 3.6 35B and other 70B class setups, while gaming stays smooth even in recent titles and on lower power settings. Battery life can stretch through long flights with a 70W charger, and Linux support plus SSD upgrades have been reported as straightforward. The main tradeoffs are the 13.4 inch screen, open box uncertainty, and possible warranty reduction if the previous owner registered it.
Local LLM builders running 35B to 70B models, because 64GB lets them fit larger contexts and the machine handles local inference well.
Traveling power users who need a compact workstation, because it can last through a long flight and still drive gaming or desktop-class workloads.
Gamers who want a portable Windows machine for recent AAA titles, because recent releases run smoothly without throttling.
Linux tinkerers who want a small machine with easy storage upgrades, because Fedora runs without issues and the SSD is the only upgradable part.
Users relying on USB-C charging without mode switching, because some chargers can trigger repeated charge and discharge cycling.
Shoppers who need a full-size display for multitasking, because the 13.4-inch screen is the main drawback.
People expecting a full one-year warranty on an open-box unit, because prior registration can reduce coverage to about three months.
Image and video generation workflows, because the AI Max chip is described as too slow to be useful for those tasks.

128GB? OK, I can run a model in the 60-80GB range with context. Huge step up from the smaller models.
But 64GB of RAM? ...
Better to have a headless machine over the network with 128 GB accessed remotely. It's worth the step up.
Or the 128gb of this, but then are you truly going to run your llm on a laptop? Again, may as well just ssh or tailscale into a remote box with more ram to work with, strix halo, dgx spark, or sufficiently sized pcie cards.
The SSD is the only thing upgradable so I put in a 2TB drive and have installed Fedora. No issues with Linux.
What's the most demanding games you played consecutively for a few hours on this? Did it throttle from the temperature getting too hot?
So, it is not that this AMD processor lacks in AI computing power compare to M5 Max, it lacks memory speed by a mile...
For performance, memory bus is a limiting factor for LLMS (txt)
I still think compute power is lacking though between AI Max Chip. It's respectable but seems to be geekbench of 72-76% of a M5 Max (I found an image online).
Anyway, all this doesn't matter if you want image/videos, Mac and AMD Max Chips both suck compared to even the older desktop nvidia chips 30xx for example in image/video generation. m5 max is pitiful on this too. Pretty sure my RTX 2070 can generate 1080 images faster than this m5 max also.
If someone is looking to eventually generate image/video don't get a Mac or AMD AI Max chip, you will regret it as it too slow to be useful. (Idk how good AMD GPU RocM support is but pretty sure that is still not there yet).
For $1600 for 64GB version that is hella steal. I paid almost $2400 few months ago

I'm using this amazing machine right now (with the 64GB) for OpenClaw with local models. It's slower than my desktop RTX 5090 but I can fit twice as large of models with large context windows and the latest MoE models speeds up things considerably. I do test it against OpenAI's models to compare and my local model responds just as fast.
The SSD is the only thing upgradable so I put in a 2TB drive and have installed Fedora. No issues with Linux.
I also just picked up a Panther Lake 358H with the Intel Arc B390. Impressive for an iGPU but cannot hold up to the Z13 for gaming. Getting about 12 hours on that machine with light usage.
