Apt timing given the most recent stomping on consumer rights and the open source ecosystem - but Bambu is a big nope at this point.
The printers work great, but they've built their entire stack on the back of FOSS and then refuse to follow the licenses they've agreed to by doing so. This is nothing new for Chinese printer brands but the "industry leader" should step up and do better.
Be informed on the machines, the manufacturer, and that the regular usage flow for their machines sends every one of your files to their servers for no reason, let alone the other 100 issues with them over the last number of years.
I'm a big fan of Bambu printers too but their latest attacks on the community and completely reprehensible attacks on open source software developers is a crime. I cannot recommend them anymore, unfortunately. I was on the verge of buying a new H2D but am going to take my business elsewhere.
I got the X1C right after it was released and have really enjoyed it, but Bambu is beyond redemption now.
As of Jan 2025, I have halted all firmware and software upgrades, and place it in LAN mode to avoid their pivot to a closed ecosystem via fraud and anti-consumer/anti-oss policies. It still works fine with OrcaSlicer (luckily not my first printer, so I'm comfortable fixing things on my own), but they have received their last dollar from me.
To their (only) credit, they did kick other companies out of the era of "let's make another Ender 3 clone", and now there are plenty of better options.
Every Creality printer I've ever owned has been a constant project printer. Bambu printers are mostly flawless technically but you have to deal with the ethics of a Chinese company. Prusa's are mostly great and have much better ethics, at a higher cost.
