Check your Chase credit card offers for $8 cash back on $15+ spending and add it to your card before you make the membership purchase. All of my Chase credit cards had it including my Amazon Prime Visa.

Be prepared for an influx of junk mail. Especially from Hartford Insurance (home and auto) and Consumer Cellular, and from all kinds of companies that want to "help" you with your medicare enrollment.

I'm under 40 but have an AARP membership because it saves me soooo much money (like hundreds a year) on home and auto insurance thru Citizens. And reading the monthly magazine is helping me prepare for aging and taking care of myself, finances, etc.

I'm new to this. What can you do with AARP Membership? What are the benefits?

I thought aarp is exclusively for seniors.
Retired people can be in their 30s or younger.

18 or older.
"How old do I have to be to join AARP?
While AARP is dedicated to people over 50, anyone 18 and older can join for as low as $15 for the first year with automatic renewal."

Okay, so I'm turning 50 and beginning to think about the shit old people do. What do you use an AARP membership for, other than maybe car insurance? Are the discounts actually worthwhile, or are they on the same level as what you can get with various credit cards, groupon, SlickDeals, and just being a generally savvy shopper?

I save at least $10-$20 a night over the hotel "best rates" when I login and use my AARP number on just about any of the major hotel chains

They actually have a surprising amount of what seems like good info on their site. Navigating Medicare can be complicated, and they have a bunch of walkthroughs and articles on it. I've been getting their flyers in the mail for years; maybe it's time to take a look.
