I have one of these, it got the android 16 update but that is the end of support. Aside from security updates these will never receive another update. It's a good phone but motorola's update policy is BS.

I just bought one, but I was torn. My wife has this phone and hates the camera. Mediocre pictures and flaky slow camera app.
I really would prefer the 2025 with UFS 3.1, but it's $135 more!

I love my 2025 and paid less for it, but it only has half the internal storage space (128GB) of this deal's phone and wasn't unlocked from day 1 (I used one of the many previous prepaid phone deals and that prepaid phone's carrier's carrier-unlock policy).

So, if having that full internal storage or the device being unlocked right away are important to you, that's part of of what's baked into the 2024's price. You may find the 2025 new at a better price than I paid (under $100) after the months of cell service I had to pay for to get it unlocked, and if you do happen to find it factory unlocked at that price, then it would probably be for the first time.

This price could be found in previous SDs under a now-outdated carrier unlocking policy that required only paying for 2 months worth of service but this policy expired earlier this year and is no longer valid.

I do hear/read that 2025>2024 from those who've been able to compare the two. And getting updates for longer is always a good thing. It's just a matter of your personal situation and when you need new phones/if you need them unlocked right now or not, if you need internal storage or will a card do?

Strange. I have the 2024 and mine takes very good photos, and the camera app is super quick.

Phone updates are overrated. I couldn't care less if it ever updates again. By the time the OS is outdated, it'll be time for a new phone.

I bought the 2025 Stylus 5G (Total Wireless) for $40. and it's a definite jump up compared to this 2024: screen is MUCH brighter, camera is MUCH better, and the clincher is IP68 rated (2024 has no rating). Faster charging, but 2024 has a longer battery but slower charging and it's due to it's dull screen. I gave my 2024 away and the camera is bad and in sunlight, that screen was a mirror. Also the 2024 has no screen protection vs 2025 with Gorilla Glass 3, 2025 will go to android 17 while the 2024 tops out at 15, 2025 has headphone jack and 2024 does not, 2025 has much higher An Tu Tu and Geekbench numbers, and one thing I noticed was the speakers sounded better on the 2025. Bonus on the 2025 is you can use it on WM Family Mobile, TF, StraightTalk, Visible and US Mobile on either their T-Mo network or Verizon while still locked.

Same here. Fully updated. Less than 1 second to start camera with double click of power button. Nice photos.

  1. Really nice midrange phone. Migrated from a flagship lg g7 this week, and it's snappier and faster. Deff not a 2026 flagship, but for under $200 vs $700+ for the top-end models, a very good buy for the features.
  2. 50 mp main camera, 3.5 mm Jack, fm radio, microSD slot and Digital pen beats most others!
  3. MicroSD erases expansion and dead phone issues. Just drop in a card, 1TB even, save photos and files to it, and if you drop and crack your phone, just eject and move to a replacement.
  4. Hackable!! Once unlocked, install 1. Shizuku 2. Swift Backup 3. CANTA!!
All those annoying spyware and adware apps? Easily removed or frozen with 2 and 3!! SO NICE!!! Can get rid of Google Well-being apps, the handful of pre-installed (facebook to games), etc that normally do not show up in your Apps list. No need for a cfw or command line adb to strip out most of the yuck modern phones ship with - 10 year old easy with these 3 apps!
  5. XDA! Custom Firmware!! Run Android 16, 17, ... Even when Motorola support stops. (Verify the exact model number of the Stylus has CFW support first before buying!)
  6. Heavy web browsing, 3C Battery Monitor estimates 11+ hours of runtime. Nice esp knowing 2025 has far shorter runtimes.
  7. Good, Loud stereo speakers. Not tinsy or thin. Satisfying.
  8. Can be had cheaper ebay unlocked, so true bargain.
  9. Camera on default Photo setting works very well. Good exposure, colors, detail day or indoors with decent lighting or better. Pro mode wonky - Color temperature setting doesn't scroll to expected divisions like 6000, 6100, 6200, but crazy ones like 6125, and photos color temperature hard to get right in Pro mode. 3rd party camera apps likely better for manual photography.
  10. Nice slew of gestures unique to moto. Eg shake phone to turn on flashlight. Or double press power button to turn on camera (a second at most).
  11. Minuses - no always on display to see clock and notifications. No red led indicator on front to indicate notifications pending. 50 mp camera only gets one 2x lossless zoom (at 12mp image output). Beyond that, top end smartphones can zoom far far further optically. Hard to find accessories locally - ebay. Round screen corners - really hate this because photos, videos, and ebooks can't be seen corner to corner full screen. Heavy. Feels like an elephant vs my lg g7. Inherent off-axis OLED screen "green" tint (for those that like lcd screens without this).
Researched 2024 vs 2025, but short battery life for the 2025 was a big no no..2024 had much better ebay deals, esp. For the 256gb 2024 model, so easy choice. (Ie. If I drop a under $120 phone once a year and total it, whatever..I can buy the replacement easy enough.)

Above are my notes with the 256gb Stylus 2024.
