The Cold Steel Trail Boss is compact enough to carry all day in your hand or strapped to your pack, yet tough enough for chores that would make a hatchet or tomahawk scream for mercy. Decent price, but not a good axe for splitting due to the head profile. If you want a splitting axe of similar size I'd recommend Fiskars X25
I'll second the Fiskars recommendation. I have many of their tools including hatchets, axes and a splitting maul. I haven't been disappointed in any of them. They make great shovels too. I'd buy just about anything made by Fiskars.
What's the durability of this axe against zombies and PDF cult members?
The head is fine, durability-wise. If your zombies are relatively fresh, you may want to slightly reprofile the head to thin the cheeks so it doesn't stick. Handles are always a crapshoot unless you can pick it out in person. But if you do break the one that comes with it, it's a great opportunity to (1) learn to read the grain and understand what makes a handle strong, and (2) learn how to rehang an axe. It's not that difficult, and it's better to learn -before- the first human host is infected.
