ROFL the T-1000e has literally never been $118 dollars. You can buy it all day straight from Seeed Studio for $39.90 shipped from their California warehouse.

$2 is a big difference from the claimed $80 savings.

I'm just starting getting into these and this sounds like a good deal. My use case is occasional hikes with low cell coverage. How many should I have? I'll probably stick to Meshtastic (vs Meshcore).

1 to carry for each team member

1 Wio Tracker L1 Pro at basecamp

Is this the typical setup?

You must be new. This is SD, where the "previous price" is essentially meaningless. You'll find posts with $0 discounts or inflated discounts.

You could do that, might be a good usecase for building a pole mounted solar repeater with a wisblock or Heltec v4 for extra range since it's a fully adhoc setup without relying on existing repeaters in the area. You would need some height for it to really be of use since it's all line of sight so the topography comes into play.
