So you did this with the 3 storage bags and that is all and it worked? I did this a while back but not sure if it still worked so that is why I ask.
So you could even buy cereal even and this would work? Like when they have a cereal sale for $2. This trick works as well when you order online and pickup?
So if you buy in store and pay in store, you say no bag and then you don't pay the additional bag fee right? So as long as you have your own bag or don't want any bag, you don't pay the bag fee this way? But for other items that are on sale only online, then you can't do this right?

Yes, the online system automatically assigns a 5¢ bag fee per item, not per transaction (bag fee depending on your state), and there is usually no option to opt out. So for three items, you'll likely see a 15¢ bag fee added, and possibly plus sales tax on that amount since you're technically purchasing the bags.
However, when you pick up your order, tell the cashier that you do not want the bag and ask them to remove the bag fee while processing the pickup. Bag fee will be removed from your new total charged. The items are often placed in a single bag anyway, even though the fee is charged per item.
After removing your items, peel off the white sticker—it comes off easily—then flatten the bag and ask that it be reused instead of thrown away. Many cashiers simply toss perfectly good bags into the trash, which defeats the entire purpose of the bag fee. If you politely show that the bag is still clean, crisp, and reusable, they may set it aside for reuse.
For in-store purchases, they will sometimes ask whether you need a bag. If you decline, you generally should not be charged a bag fee.
That's it.
Thank you
