Oh yeah I have the astrobot controller and it's the same story, I didn't even think to consider the difference in surface. The shiny ones definitely feel different in hand.

Picked up the Chroma Teal from last weeks deal(same price) and its a pretty cool looking controller if you want something different. Connected it to my iPad Air w/ ease. Playing GTA Vice City w/ it!
