Apple just announced iOS 27, and the most powerful on-device Apple Intelligent models require an iPad with at least an M4 or later. For more future proofing, I'd get the M4.

This model is "built for" the Apple Intelligence that got them sued. It cannot run the most performant models that will be offered later this year.

The m4 has 12GB of memory. This one has 8GB, I bought this one last month at this price from Best Buy, but honestly, I'm not sure at what point I'd notice the difference. I was using a 10.5 inch iPad Pro until recently and it's only got 4GB and I don't think I ever noticed it's lack of RAM.

What exactly does that mean? Are you talking about AI? Why can't it run the most performant models? Would it be better to wait for the newer model? At what price?

Apple in their keynote says m4 chip and 12gb ram is required to run their new ai model coming out in the fall. This iPad doesn't meet spec, lol I bought this last month too thinking it'd have support

That's half correct, it won't run the on device models, and being able to change the tone/speed of Siri, but everything else will work just fine.

The other day I traded in my M1 iPad Air Wi-Fi only for this iPad Air M3 cellular model. It looks the same, feels the same, but apps load significantly faster over the M1 iPad. Fair warning, the Apple Pencil 2 is not compatible with this tablet. An Apple Pencil Pro is compatible with the iPad Air M3.
