Grip size? Size 3 is considered good for adult men, so it's on the big size. it's better to go smaller than too big because you can add over grips to compensate.

He should get used to the 27".
He'll be full grown size in like 2 years.
At his age, there are tennis phenoms, and they do not use 25-26" rackets.

If the dad is asking about tennis racket size, then more than likely a beginner. Not saying he shouldn't move forward to the 27in eventually, but starting off, probably best to get used to a racket that is easier to swing.
