This used to be a great Italian brand, but no longer. The "Mediterranean Flavor" advertised is unfortunately just subjective and has nothing to do with the Genova tuna sold in the US. The Genova Tuna (now owned by a Thai company) that's sold in the United States is usually from Thailand or Vietnam and sometimes comes from Ecuador or Ghana (which is actually superior). To get the real sustainably caught product of consistent high quality that is raised in the Mediterranean Sea you will now need to purchase this tuna brand within Europe, where they generally won't eat sketchy seafood. If you really want to buy this brand you should buy it in a store where you can look at where the tuna is actually caught. The can is stamped "Product of ..." on the top of each can. However, if Yellowfin Tuna is type of tuna you prefer, you won't find it in the Mediterranean, because it prefers warmer waters. So the "Mediterranean Flavor" slogan does not apply to Yellowfin Tuna at all, unless you are just counting on the olive oil for the flavor (Genova does not state where their olive oil is sourced).

Great price, but Good Lord this is incredibly salty: 500 mg...normal tuna maxes sodium at 325mg and is advertised as low sodium at 225 or so.

Salt makes everything taste better. Eating low-sodium chunk light tuna packed in water right out of the can really makes you feel like a broke college student.

I used to only eat tuna packed in water thinking it was healthier but the taste is waaaaay better packed in oil. Plus the Genova brand is top shelf!
