These compact 1.7Ah DeWALT Powerstack batteries are best for lighter tools where size and weight matter, especially drills, drivers, wrenches, and power pruners. The smaller form factor makes extended use easier, and the pack can still briefly handle higher draw tools like impact wrenches. Runtime is the main limitation, since circular saws, angle grinders, and chainsaws can drain them fast. The branding has also changed over time, with newer packs showing XR and older ones showing Power Stack labeling.

  • Tradespeople using impact wrenches or drivers, because the compact pack delivers sustained power while staying small in the hand.

  • Pruners working overhead with extended tool arms, because the smaller battery avoids the fatigue of heavier packs.

  • DIYers running drills and other lower-power tools, because the pack works fine without issues on lighter loads.

  • People running circular saws or angle grinders for long stretches, because the 1.7Ah capacity drains very quickly under high draw.

  • Workers planning six-hour cutting sessions, because a 1.7Ah battery will need frequent swaps and recharge time.

  • Shoppers who want a battery that feels worthwhile for all-day use, because 1.7Ah is too small for sustained heavy work.

Screw Lowes. They cancelled my first order with no explanation, there were over 300 available in stock at the time. Then I reordered with 110 in stock and they cancelled it again. They still show 67 available at the time of this post.

They've canceled my order twice as well. Not sure what's going on but both of those times was delivery. When I switched to in store pick up they have yet to cancel.

Honestly, regardless if it's a "power stack" or not, what's the point of a 1.7ah battery? That's basically worthless

I did see an interesting result when I ordered yesterday 1 pack was same day and I think some local from the Lowes (2 miles from my house). But when I added 2 packs it switched to 3 days ship to home vs. Free Delivery. But like others have said tons available. I am still shocked that from order to door step it was ~1.5 hours.

I wonder if this is the typical Lowes old stock or if these are the newer design batteries.
Yeah looks like old stock. I had mine shipped to me, and the two I got today are both from 2024 =\

These were just $90 for a 1.7ah and 5ah @ Home Depot 2 days ago I believe. Not a great deal.

The power powerstack batteries are the newer one (they use cell pouches), and XR are older (they use the traditional cylindrical batteries, like shape of AA)

Edit - looks like I was wrong. Can't keep track of Dewalts branding changes.
To be fair - DeWalt's constant battery branding changes are impossible to keep up with. It's like they're intentionally trying to confuse people.

Smaller form factor and a greater sustained power delivery over the course of a charge. The 1.7Ah is compact, but can still (briefly) power high draw tools that previously required a large form factor battery.

Think high draw impact wrenches and such.

3AH is the minimum for me, good balance between size/weight and doing actual work
