Of course after it unlocks it will work with most of the carriers not just T-Mobile. I think that was not the original question 🙂

That use to happen in the past (~2024-25). Not anymore, from my experience, metro phones won't work with T-Mobile

Not a horrible deal I guess, but I wouldn't like the smaller screen and battery or the fixed 256gb storage.

From what I remember Metro phones work with regular T-Mobile without need to unlock it, right?

Or since you are waiting a year for the unlock, wait until Sept/Oct for the S26 Fe to come out. I think that is my plan.

That's cool. I use these phones for vacation travel. I get one every few years. I do not like to have my banking/brokerage/cashapp type things on my phone when we are out exploring in other countries. So easy to leave my main phone in the hotel safe and use one of these, once it unlocks, with a local esim. Samsung's 7 years of updates makes the FE perfect for me.

So I just turn on the phone once and leave it in a drawer or use it as a wifi only handheld?
