I have the 6ft version of this and it's a great ladder, very sturdy. Not super heavy but also not an ultralight. I have a small ultralight for something quick but if I need something I'm going to be up for more than a minute or two I use this.

Light work? Dude, this is a type 1A ladder. It supports 300 pounds. Don't let it's physical weight confuse it's heavy duty status. We've used and abused these on jobs, and they're excellent where you want a comfortable platform instead of narrow step.

Does support capacity diminish with use time? After two minutes on your other ladder are you risk catastrophic collapse?
What an odd question... Yes there is a difference going up on a ladder for a minute to grab something off a tall shelf versus using one to install a ceiling fan on a ladder with a good sturdy platform rated for 300lbs for example.

Came here to check the weight and it's not surprising for fiberglass: 14.5 pounds. Little Giant makes equivalent models in aluminum and the weight for those models is as low as 12 pounds. If I needed something for around the house and didn't require a non-conductive ladder, I'd take the weight savings. Personally I keep one fiberglass 6ft ladder for those jobs, and everything else for me is aluminum. Even a few pounds is the difference between being comfortable hanging the ladder on the back of a door with a single 3M Command hook vs. two (2) hooks or some other, sturdier mounting solution.

Otherwise the price is amazing and the step design is my preferred style. I'll be doing some measurements as to where I store this and I may buy if only because the dimensions and price.

Good luck!
Jon

I have the two step ultra version of this and it's great. If you're tall like I am, be sure to figure out what height you'll be at when on the platform. Mine has one less step and the platform sits a little over 19" and I have just enough room to not rub the ceiling but a light fixture will get me. But that's better than the 3ft Werner podium ladder I bought that puts me at ...well, that is my new outside ladder. The platform sits at 34 1/2". The only negative on the Little Giant is it will easily fall into the working position if you don't carry it a certain way and the tray will slam the support rail and it's not the most pleasant sound.

Genuine question: how is this better than the occasional 5' and 6' Lowe's fiberglass ladders that pop up on sale for much less than this?

Can I step up on both sides?

Stand on the top step?
Yes on the top step.

Odd question? I'm trying to understand how the weight of a ladder has a anything to do with the amount of time you're spending on the ladder.

It depends what you're doing with it, but you can see in the 3rd product photo, with the platform step on top, you get much closer to the wall where you're working. I much prefer to be close and facing the wall for some tasks, like painting. Also helps if you are up against a cabinet and need to reach over, a regular ladder either sets you back even further, or you are turning to do the work. If you have more space around you, and are changing lightbulbs or something else overhead a regular step ladder works just fine.

I have an ultra light ladder not rated at 300lbs spec that is only about 8lbs. It is super compact and small with a flimsy feeling platform that is fine for small quick tasks. If I'm doing complex jobs that require carrying heavy objects up and down the ladder or standing on the platform while doing complicated tasks. I prefer the heavy duty sturdy one even though it's heavier and more of a burden to get out and use because it's double the weight.

Does that clear it up?

Ah, ok. Thanks for the response. I hadn't bothered to look at the photos on Costco, but that makes perfect sense and definitely beats my method of not unfolding it and just leaning it against the wall ha

I've been eyeing this but the 4.5' Gorilla dual platform ladder at HD is only $10 more but weighs significantly less (13.5 vs 16.5 lbs). Same step height. Anyone got any thoughts on why this one would be better?
