Hmmm...Is this supposed to be the new Neo competitor? It's about $100 too expensive, and at these prices, that's 20% of the Neo's price for students, which is probably their target demographic. It's getting into M4 Air territory.

This is the upgraded version. Got one for the wife, looking forward to seeing it in person. It's a good half pound lighter than the neo, has a touchscreen which is an overall better screen.

single core perf is pretty impressive for a low end, low power(for Intel) non-Apple cpu

should be on par with the Apple A18 Pro but with a bit better multicore

but Dell is watering down the XPS branding for a budget, entry level laptop in an attempt to help sales.

The entry level/base model is $599(EDU) and comes with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage.
so you're paying $150 more for the 16GB RAM.

problem with the entry level model is 8GB RAM with windows 11... lol
install LTSC or do some major windows debloating and it might be "OK" barely.

If they had a 32GB RAM version for around $1k, businesses would be all over this.

This is nicer than the Neo in a lot of ways. Also some people don't really like Mac OS (though MS is working hard to enshittify Windows).

Enshittifying Windows after all the bloat they added?

I picked up a much older version of this machine for next to free... same storage, same RAM, same display panel/resolution.

If you guys are paying anything close to $500 for this you need to be looking elsewhere. I was a buyer for a rather large org and it's been painful watching people get butchered for no reason—for everyone's sake, check secondary markets. This shit is criminal.

It might seem farfetched, but yes.

What does the "XPS" stand for in this model? It used to be short for "Extreme Performance System". That ain't this...

Well one of the things XPS stands out over other consumer line Dell laptops is build quality, not just CPU performance. People get too hung up on CPU, which most users don't really need. However, a 2.2 lbs TOUCHSCREEN aluminum laptop is CRAZY. To me, aluminum feels so much more premium than the magnesium alloy that a lot of company uses to keep weight down, which feels like plastic. Let's also not forget about the 2.5k 500 nit 120hz screen. I would love to see this in real life. Yes, the only thing I would wish is 32gb ram option. Also, how is this CPU for battery life? Is it like lunar lake?

Yeah. If you strip out a lot of the crap from Win11 it feels very much like Win10 which was quite good. Honestly, every time I've had to use Mac OS for any length of time I just don't like it. Often when I hear people complaining about Windows my first thought is they are wrong... then I remember that I'm only working with business machines that have clean copies of Windows and I typically strip out a lot of crap when I first setup the computer. Not exactly the same as someone who is using a stock Windows install.

I do like things about Macs, and the Apple hardware is generally very nice (we have Macs in the house but they aren't mine). I also appreciate that Macs can last a long time. But so can Windows computers. The one I'm using right now is 12 years old and works great... but it was not a low end computer when new. Apple is good about making sure even the "low end" computers aren't low end (often even in price).

I think it was their gaming line before Alien but I'm really not sure. Starting in 2013 it was the line that was kind of a Mac alternative in terms of build quality, features etc. For a while the XPS13 and 15 were "the best" Windows laptops. When placed next to the Macbooks of the time they were about even in terms of quality of build, screen, keyboards etc.
