I got this used with 99hrs locally for about 1000 less than this, including a 2 yr warranty that transferred, same number and size of batteries but no wall charger. Love it, easy to maintain and cuts fast and clean. I had a notification on for this and would have jumped so fast had I not gotten lucky with the local purchase. I have only seen 1 error thrown and it was because I got it stuck on rocks. If you get this, make sure you are aware of its lack of slope mowing capabilities.
This Greenworks 60V 42 inch zero turn stands out as a quiet, low maintenance electric mower that cuts fast and clean, with enough battery capacity to handle large yards. The included six batteries and wall charger plug directly into the mower, and charging is described as convenient and fairly quick. Real world reports put mowing range around 1.5 to 2.5 acres, with tall grass and rough, rooty terrain handled well. The main caution is slope use, since steep hills are a weak spot and Greenworks lists a 15 degree maximum. It is a strong fit for big, mostly flat properties.
Homeowners with a few acres of mostly flat grass, because it cuts fast and clean, handles 1.5 to 2.5 acres, and stays quiet with low maintenance.
It is not a good choice for steep slopes. Greenworks recommends a maximum 15-degree slope, and owners report it can slide or miss the mark on inclines, so it works better on flatter ground or when mowing carefully up and down mild slopes.
Yes, it can cut tall grass and rough ground well. It has been used on 2.5- to 3.5-foot weeds, 6- to 8-inch fescue, and rooty or bumpy terrain, though the ride can be rough and uneven spots can cause scalping if you approach them poorly.
Real-world runtime is around 1.5 to 2.5 acres depending on grass height, terrain, and battery setup. Reports include about 2 acres in roughly an hour, about 1.5 acres with no problems, and about 2.5 acres on 4 batteries.
Yes. The included wall charger plugs directly into the mower, so the batteries do not need to be removed for charging. The charger is an all-in-one setup that stays on the mower's battery rack.
No. It can operate with as few as three batteries, and it will also run with more batteries installed for longer runtime. The battery compartment has three columns tied to drive, right blade, and left blade functions, so each column needs at least one battery to start.
Looking to gain some knowledge on these higher-end (3k+) electric mowers that use batteries: how do you guys that have bought something like this compare the economics to something like a traditional gas mower? The cost of replacing these batteries seems pretty high because of their capacity. When outside of the warranty period do you feel its still worth paying the cost to replace a battery (or more)? I would love to buy one of these but the long-term economics vs a gas zero turn kind of puts me off. Apart from that with a gas mower I feel its easier to replace / rebuild things like the engine to keep it running for a while. What is the repairability like for these EV mowers?
I didn't see a response yet to this, but its some great questions. My thought also is that the general populace is currently willing to throw $3K away without thinking long term. Electric lawn equipment is cool and really makes sense. But yes what about after warranty care? .This isn't old time Craftsman with a parts store and catalog.
I hear even in warranty horror stories about shipping GW equipment to neighboring states and they just sit around unfixed for months. Hard to trust anything on the netnow.
Greenworks is suppose to be more reliable and I would say it doesn't work as well as Ego but its more reliable. But I am comparing the single battery type systems and what Consumer reports and my limited research/experience has dug up.
A long time ago I called Greenworks for a chainsaw that had an oiler that wasn't working. Long story short I got another one via CS and id have to say well they just didn't oil the chain well. Still works but I oil it with an oil can. All the other GW stuff I haven't sold off works still, but not well the trimmer is slow to start and weird but still works. This is old school stuff a decade+ old.

Can anybody who used this comment on terrain that is bumpy due to small rocks / protruding roots from big trees and also for slope? I have one section that has quite a bit of slope, maybe 30 deg on one section of the lawn.
I am starting to seriously consider this, even if it is an expensive mower (considering I was looking to spend around 5-600 on a gas powered driving mower on fb haha)
I've had this for 2 years and I love it. Paid 4k for it +4 batteris and 2 chargers though. Very little maintenance, cuts well, quiet, doesn't stink, no stupid gas station trips, manages my rooty backyard terrain no problem (although it's a bumpy ride!). I will say I can't recommend it for slopes, it doesn't do very well with them, I have a slight slope down to the road and I have to be careful how I approach it or I'll slide and miss the mark. I think Greenworks also says don't use this on slopes. Treat your batteries well (e.g. don't expose to temp extremes) and you shouldn't have any problems - I haven't. I've used it for some light duty hauling in the bucket on the back, mostly wood, and it handles it fine. I have 1/3rd acre and can just get two mows (about 40m per mow) out of 4 batteries. 10/10, at this juncture, would buy again, no regrets.
As far as customer service, I haven't had to contact them about the mower, but I did have to contact them about a blower, and it was easy and painless.

Couldn't you just mow up and down the hill instead of on the side?

I can't answer your question, but regarding the slope, Greenworks says you can use the mower on up to a 15 degree slope.

You can if its a very long hill and you don't plan to turn on the incline. I have done that on mine in certain areas, but for a road adjacent ditch/runoff, you leave the center of the wedge to be overgrown by the height from front wheel to back wheel as your front raise your deck up while ascending the positive slope. Ideally you mow with the non-discharge side in the wedge, doing the opposite can scalp the grass and get the shoot stuck in uneven spots sometimes.

Is anyone else's order stuck on "placed"? I'm wondering if this will ever ship. I had a bad experience with Walmart once before with an expensive item at a low price that never shipped.
