This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split is a budget heat pump that stands out for strong cooling, quiet operation, and lower power use than window or portable units. Real-world installs describe easy DIY setup for handy owners, with precharged condenser refrigerant, preflared lines, and heating that can hold up well in cold weather. The main drawbacks are the lack of WiFi on this model, the need for vacuuming and careful electrical work, and some concern about shipping damage or early failures. It looks like a solid value if you are comfortable with the install.

Yes, absolutely. You do need a battery bank and inverter to power this. If you want it to run only on solar that is all you need, probably 15-1800w of panels would be sufficient for use when the sun is out. If you want to subsidize some power with the use of solar, but always want the ability to run the ac, you will need an automatic transfer switch that will automatically switch from your inverter to the grid when the battery bank gets too low to power the ac. The 115v ATS isn't too expensive, there are options under $100 on amazon
thx. under $100 on amazon?

Did you run a dedicated line for this or just extended from a 110v outlet to this?
I installed a 220v unit, not this exact one but you should always have a dedicated line is my understanding.

I've installed three mini splits. For the money, much cheaper than a full heat pump in additions and small spaces.

whats the difficulty lvl for first timer would you rated? plus any special tools required for the vacuum part or new model doesnt require that any more?
I installed mine as a first timer, it is rather easy. I followed a couple youtube videos because there are things you have to do in a certain order but overall its pretty easy

I have a shop room what was walled in and converted into a spare room a few years ago. It doesn't have any insulation so the room is super hot and cold during the seasons. I'm planning to renovate and insulate that room in the fall when the weather is cooler. Should I wait for a mini split deal during that time or should I buy one of these front page models and just hold on to it til then? The room is close to the electrical panel so I'm assuming I should get a 220v model.

I have a Mitsubishi split that crapped out a few years ago.
Anyone know if the lines are compatible?
I may be interested in just swapping out the indoor and outdoor pieces and using the existing power and refrigerant lines.
I'm guessing that I would need a pro to do that.

Thanks

220v just has two 110s. The neutral and ground are the same. The qire thickness varies by the amps and length of run.
If u have a gas dryer but have a 220 v dryer outlet, u have an unused 220 v line with breaker. Just find that line and tap off it. Viola, 220 v line for cheap!

Anything but Mr. Cool requires you to have the HVAC tools, which will run you around $1k for everything. From what I've read up on, it's worth it if you're planning on doing a lot of installs. For a one off, it's a big investment (still cheaper than hiring someone), but it will run you around the same as a Mr. Cool and you'll just have a lot of tools sitting around afterwards. The big gotcha is that most of these companies don't offer warranties to DIY installs and most HVAC companies won't want to service them. Warranty coverage usually requires at least the line vacuum and refrigerant release to be done by someone who's licensed. I've heard of some people getting by it with an EPA 608 certification, but it's inconsistent.
You can actually rent a couple of the tools (vacuum pump and hoses) in auto parts locations if its only going to a few installs and you get your money back as long as you don't break something. You'll have to get the adaptor for the hoses and i recommend refrigerant thread sealant.

I would like to buy a manifold gauge set for this install and maintenance 4 of other conventional systems. Does anyone Any recommendations (SMAN is too expensive for me) ? Are the Elitech models worth buying (eg https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...87K1&psc=1).

I don't get how HVAC companies stay in business with deals like this... Let me think, do I want to pay $441, or $4,401?
This is that one simple trick HVAC installers don't want you to know that will save you 1000s!
