The 779 hits $399 so regularly that it's essentially the normal price, not really a deal. When it drops to around $350 like it was a few weeks ago, and/or includes a stand, then it's worth considering.

At 60 pounds with a footprint similar to a (much more useful) small table saw, this is really a specialty item. Good quality but 30-year-old design. Remember the good blades START at an additional $60.

These things are huge and cumbersome. People need to seriously evaluate how big of stuff they truly need to miter before investing in such a big saw.

A 7 1/4" sliding miter saw @25 lbs - some with the new compact arm style and integrated shadow line - will crosscut a 2x10. Smaller footprint and a better option for most. Plus, a good blade is only $15.

I am sure some people need the capacity of a 12" miter saw. Still, for most, this obsolete design is a relic best left on Tool Time. Remember the DeWalt 779 is 42" deep and 24" wide, minus any extensions. With a dust bag and nominal extensions, it is 52"deep x at least 72" wide. But it will cross-cut a 2x14 if you build floor joists in big homes.
