This Metro Samsung Galaxy A57 5G deal stands out for 256GB storage, 8GB of RAM, and a bigger screen than typical prepaid phones. It also brings 6GHz Wi Fi and Bluetooth 6.0, and the phone unlocks after 365 days from activation with no further service payments after the initial purchase. The main knocks are its weaker Samsung camera optimization, a 5 megapixel macro camera, and security support ending in March 2028. DeX support is also limited on this A series model, so it fits best if storage and everyday use matter more than desktop features.

Common Questions (5)

  • The A57 5G has 256GB of storage, while the S25 FE deal mentioned in the thread had 128GB. That extra storage is the main advantage called out for the A57, especially for people who want more room without relying on expandable storage.

  • With port-in, the total can come out to about $141 to $165 depending on how the plan and tax are applied. One breakdown is $99.99 for the phone plus $35 and tax; another reads as $300 or $400 plus the $65 first-month plan depending on whether you port in or use a new number.

  • The phone unlocks after 365 days from the date it is activated. After the initial purchase, no further service or payment is needed for the unlock countdown, though one comment questions whether active service must still be maintained to request the unlock.

  • It is not a good choice if you need DeX. Wireless or pseudo-DeX on A-series phones can time out the phone and external display, lacks trackpad-style control, and can be laggy or glitchy compared with wired DeX.

  • Yes, it can reportedly be flashed with a stock ROM to get the Samsung boot screen. Out of the box, it stays on the Metro screen.

If you want and SD card slot and 8GB RAM, check out the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro. I got one from a metro deal, and think it's an amazing phone. The key feature is a screen that is matte and feels like a kindle screen. But it does bring the goods with the SD card slot.

The phone as surprised me. My one con vs the Samsung is you miss out on a long update cycle. Not sure how long TCL will support the 70 Pro
security support until march 2028 Frown

Is this phone better than the iPhone 16e? (similar price from Metro)
16e faster.

A57 bigger screen, 256GB storage, 6ghz WiFi, Bluetooth 6.0, bigger cams

but Samsung cam very bad optimizations, use so much RAM, peak to over 2GB, killing my other apps

I was about to say S25FE is much faster at the same price, but its product page disappeared
Honest question: is this a good deal or I am missing something?

S26 with 256 GBs at $300
https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...galaxy-s26

I assume:
  • It unlocks in a year (but payment for the first month is the only required)
  • + Plan for a month (let's say $100 more)
$400 total cost read like great deal to me.
What am I missing?

Few things to know (get asked in all metro threads): - After the initial purchase, no further service or payment is needed. The phone will unlock after 365 days from the date it was activated. Metro unlock policy for reference: https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...wZaIRqmmKD - YMMV but once the phone is delivered, one can also checkout this offers on tablet: Motorola Moto Pad tablet: https://slickdeals.net/f/19530615-existing-metro-customers-8gb-ram-128gb-motorola-moto-pad-2026-5g-tablet-pantone-bronze-green-as-low-as-69-99?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse
So, you only pay for the first month of service, then discontinue it from day 31st until the 365th day. And finally, you request the unlock on the 366th day?

The way I am reading it - It's 300+65 with 1 month service if you port in. It's 400+65 with 1 month service if you get a new number.

I am not sure if you need active 12 months service to request unlock after a year.

Yes. You might not even have to request, it will happen automatically

Hmm, touch choice. I was leaning towards 16e because of emergency satellite capabilities, but since I'll have Pixel 10 as my main phone, I don't really need it. Now it all comes down to resale value I suppose and I think the iPhone comes on top.

Can you downgrade your plan after the 1st month? My mom is at home all day on Wi-Fi she doesn't need to be on expensive unlimited plan.

Can I port out the metro number to Textnow before 1 month service end? Will this affect the 1 year unlock of the phone?

As per the unlock policy it should not but I don't have any first hand experience, so can't confirm.

This is a good deal if you don't need DeX. If you do, wait for a deal after the S26 FE launch (or pony up for the S26). I know you can kind of enable wireless DeX on A series, but it's not very good. The screen on your device will time out, and times out the external display as well. You can get around this with an app to keep the display awake, but that still sucks. It doesn't give you the trackpad control using your device, so you need to use a Bluetooth keyboard or something to control it, which I do with full DeX some of the time anyway, but sometimes I like the convenience of that controller if just sitting down for a movie or something. Wireless DeX is also a bit laggy and glitchy compared with wired. All-in-all, I don't bother with pseudo DeX on A series Samsungs. I guess I would if it's all that I had.
