This is the second season I've used this mower from Costco. It runs great and has as much power as any gas mower I've owned. I personally haven't had any issues, but I'm also not shilling for Greenworks. I do think it's a good buy so long as you don't get the unlucky "lemon" that some people seem to have gotten.
Greenworks 80V 22 inch dual blade mower is a strong fit for larger yards that need more cutting power, dual battery ports, and self propel. It handles thick grass well, can cover about a third of an acre on two batteries when conditions are reasonable, and the 80V batteries work with other Greenworks tools. The dual blades and wider deck are the main upgrades over the 21 inch model. Caveats include occasional start quirks, damaged or missing parts on arrival, and uneven reliability or support. A solid option if you want cordless power with shared batteries.
Homeowners with thick grass who want dual blades and dual battery ports, because the mower can handle dense growth without choking and avoids mid-yard shutdowns.
Buyers replacing an aging electric mower who want gas-like cutting power, because it runs with power comparable to a gas mower and cuts better than a Honda.
Buyers who need dependable battery support over years of use, because batteries can fail within a year and replacements may not match the original capacity.
Some units have had failures such as stopping mid-cut, dying, or arriving damaged or missing a battery. Other owners report multiple seasons of trouble-free use, and Greenworks has replaced failed batteries for some customers, but defective units and slow exchanges have also been reported.
The 22" model adds a wider cut, dual blades, dual battery ports, and an LED light versus the cheaper 21" version. The dual blades and dual battery ports are useful for thicker grass and for avoiding mid-yard shutdowns when one battery is not enough.
It can mow about a 1/2-acre lot with roughly 1/3 acre actually cut on one charge if the grass is not too long. Another owner used about half the battery capacity for a front-and-side yard totaling about 1/4 acre, while smaller lawns may finish with bars still left.
It has been described as cutting thick grass well, with the dual blades helping it handle dense growth and mulch without choking. One owner said it cut better than a Honda, while another said it "devoured" thick grass.
Yes. The 80V batteries are compatible with other Greenworks products, which makes the mower more useful if you already own other 80V tools or want to share batteries across the lineup.
Just ordered one. Took my slightly over 4 year 21" mower back to Costco. It was stopping and beeping more often which required a restart after a couple minutes. Started doing that about 1 year ago. Anyway, the upgrade is going to cost me $100 plus tax.
How did the return / exchange go? I also have the 21", a couple years old. Works fine, a couple of the battery indicator lights have gone out and the rubber on the handles is falling off. But I've been pleased with the cutting performance so I'm tempted to do the same - return and upgrade to this model....

The return was easy peasy. The return guy was a manager and it was no problem.
this brand is junk, battery(out of two) died not even a year in after maybe 3 changes, then they send me a 4Ah battery instead of the original 5Ah, it's cheap for a reason
Just get ego at this price. It will outlast this. I have the greenwood pressure washer which is great but lets be real, I only use it here and there and its a plugin. For grasscutting go with ego

My neighbor, a young lady, has an Ego mower, it takes her 2 hours to cut her small yard, normal size for the subdivision, about 1/4 acre. Stops constantly - she pushes it 3 feet, it bogs down and shuts off, she restarts, pushes 3 feet, it bogs down and shuts off. I always see everyone recommending Ego, but from what I've observed, I wouldn't take one for free.

I've got a 9 year old Kobalt 80v, which is manufactured by Greenworks, and it's still running and using the same 2 original 2.0ah batteries. Unless Greenworks has fallen off a cliff I'm sure this will last.
I bought this mower almost exactly one year ago from Costco for the same price. Our front and rear lawns are relatively small so the double 4AH batteries are overkill (they don't drop below 3 bars after mowing), but it's nice that the 80V batteries work with other products.
Haven't had any issues with the mower so far, either in bagging or mulching. The self-propel function is a must-have if your lawn has weird slopes like mine.
I got mine today. Easy to assemble. It's a hoss compared to my old 21" 80v. I love the dual battery ports. My other mower would die in the middle of the yard with just the one 80v battery. The dual blades devoured my thick grass. It's much heavier and gets close to my old gas mower in weight. It makes the 21" look like a toy. It used about half of the battery capacity for my front and side yard, 1/4 acre. So far, so good
I have multiple tools that use the 80v batteries, both old style and new. Never a problem. Two batteries stopped working after a few years, and GW sent me 2 new ones the next day for free. My father has an Ego, and it is great. Their batteries and tools feel better built. His edger is significantly heavier than my GW.
If you wait till the fall, Costco should have these mowers for $400+\-. They did last year.

Greenworks does stand behind its products. I had to get a replacement pressure washer. They sent it no questions asked. Costco has a great return policy from what I hear. I've bought Greenworks from both the manufacturer and Costco. I'm too committed to the Greenworks ecosystem to leave.
GW had them on sale for $599, but they went off sale today. Mine arrived with some damage and no battery in the box. I'm trying to get an exchange but they are making me jump through a bunch of hoops and dragging things out. I had trouble with a GW blower last year, and they finally sent me a new one after playing games with me for 2 weeks.

I think we're using the same mower. I got mine in 2017 and have used it regularly. Of the four batteries, 3 hold an almost equal to new charge still and one has died (I believe because that one I left dead when I had to leave home for a few months and it deteriorated). My yard has always taken 3-4 batteries due to its size, and the same still holds up now. Didn't even realize I had it almost a decade until your comment, lol

Dual battery ports can prevent mid-yard shutdown when one battery would otherwise die.
Dual blades can handle thick grass and reduce choking on mulch compared with single-blade setups.
Easy assembly and a heavier build can make the mower feel closer to a gas mower.
Battery runtime can cover about a 1/4 acre yard using roughly half the battery capacity.
Arrivals can include shipping damage or missing batteries, and exchanges can involve slow, difficult hoops.
The start procedure can be unintuitive, requiring holding the power button and pulling a green lever for seconds.
Some units can stop pulling or die during cutting, requiring repeated battery reinsertion.
Battery failures can occur within about a year, and replacements may arrive with different capacity than expected.
