There are some other minors which too many to list them out.
This is a six-year-old mobile device with a paltry 64gb of non-expandable storage. No microSD card slot! Sitting on a shelf for six years can't be good for those designed-to-fail-after-two-years batteries.
There are tons of 2024/2025 Track Phones for $40-75.... Androids with 8gb ram, 128gb storage, microSD card slot, 120hz refresh rate, etc. THOSE I'd argue are good disposable phones.
Anyone who says you only need one month paid is lying to you. All TracFone devices are under the same policy. I had to add more time after they went from "60 days after activation" to "60 days of paid active service" to get a couple of phones unlocked. Now it's "365 days of paid active service".
Metro phones will unlock 365 days after activation, not TracFone.
If you have Verizon Fios but not Verizon wireless service, you can also use this line to save $15 a month on your Fios service, literarily earning $36
Some argue these are great for a "spare/backup phone". I can't tell you a single time I had something go wrong with my primary device, in such that I needed an active spare sitting around - but you do you...! There are quite a number of reasons to have one. Some reasons make more sense to some people vs others.
Also what you're pointing out is what a lot of people already recommend doing, which is to buy an old flagship instead of a modern midranger for the same price. The same year the IP12 was released, Samsung released the S20 which can also record 4k60.

Personally I would guess it will not get IOS 28 (which will likely be next fall). but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. Apple surprisingly included iPhone 11 in the IOS 27 release, that is a bit promising as a kind of "precedent".
On the other hand, IOS 28 is rumored to be quite bulky and a major overhaul.
