Seems like a solid phone and a great deal for $50. Good build quality with pleasant materials. LCD screen looks nice, should be good for navigation since it won't burn in like OLED screens do.
It appears to support eSIM, but I suspect it needs to unlocked before it will work with another carrier.
I turned mobile data off completely to avoid wasting any of it during initial setup / carrier updates. A couple of apps had conveniently been exempted from "data saver" mode.
The bundled junkware takes up a surprising amount of space, at least 5-6GB.
I think it will make a great backup phone.
"RAM (2)
Boost extended RAM requires use of phone's internal storage as virtual memory, decreasing storage capacity; available user storage is less while in use; feature on by default unless turned off. 4GB physical RAM + up to 4GB RAM Boost (2GB Default | 4GB Max)"
So apparently I can get 8 gb RAM but I have to use like 4 gb storage to get it? I can live with 124 gb since I can expand it.
I guess I'll keep it as long as the RAM boost works as advertised.
If FAST30 doesn't work for you, search in the forum for other codes.
Minutes are 500 minutes/$10 refill.
1000 texts/$5.
3gb/$10.
1 year service extension/$50.
Which goes a long way.
But if this type of plan doesnt work for you, you can sign up for their monthly plans.
Not sure how you thought I was complaining about the plan because I have phones with it already.
I am only looking out for the uneducated folks that come to these threads expecting a monthly refresh, as is common practice in the industry. The word "1-year" or "annual plan" is simply not enough to provide that understanding. Add the words to the effect of "Total for the year" just as an example.
For $50 for a year of service, the hardware seems amazing. The software, however, is worse than I was expecting. We're an Apple family, but this is their first "smartphone", and I'm a little shocked at the Android experience.
First off, 2 of the 3 were running their original 2024 build. On an iPhone you'd update to the latest version during setup and never worry about it. On Android, it seems, every update needs to be applied sequentially. 30 months of updates (about 15 updates). It took days to get current.
Tracfone stuffs the phone with spyware and junk apps like it's an early 2000s Acer PC. There are two apps called Contacts. I'm sure one of them is Google's and one of them is sending all the contact data to advertising companies, but when looking at a list to manage them through Family Link, I have no idea which is which. A wallpaper app really wants to take over the launcher and get every possible permission.
There are no default apps for basic things like playing music, or weather.
Various authentication issues resulted in every one of my kid's accounts getting locked and requiring appeal. In one case, one account was locked just because it was associated with one of the other locked accounts. They hadn't even used the phone yet, I was just in the process of setting them up.
Then there's the naming. I bought cases and screen protectors for Moto G 5G 2024s. I only learned later that is a different phone from Moto G power 5G 2024, Moto G Play 2024, and Moto G Stylus 2024, etc.
The phone itself is huge. Way taller and a little wider than an iPhone 17. Screen seems nice enough for what my kids need. Standby battery life has been amazing - it'll go for days.
Now that they're up and running, they're fine. Some of the issues are Tracfone and Moto crapware. Some of it is Android.

So comes down to whether you prefer the 8gb ram of this device and was the first of the two I got, so appeared better for 50 (had a walmart GC to use to). While the Samsung a bunch of updates later (which I also thought felt slow) has Android 15. Which on that basis if these devices successfully unlock after 365 days from activation, I am leaning toward having that one as my phone.. Unfortunately don't know how these work as a phone lol. Although I think texting/keyboard is better on this moto

I make it a habit to deactivate non essential apps and carrier apps before they start installing bloatware, keeps the phone clean.
Also used Google family link and blocked access to certain apps, the play store, so he can't use the phone for YouTube, browsing etc.
I disabled a bunch of apps, especially carrier apps etc that automatically installs bloatware.

edit: it went out of stock at the location I had selected between adding it to the cart and checking out. You may need to change your store if you're seeing the wrong price.
