TLDR; As long as you understand the difficulties and don't mind the initial hoops, on the whole, I would recommend it.
Pros:
- About the cheapest mobile plan you can get.
- You can choose between Verizon and T-Mobile's network.
- Speeds seem as advertised (I came from an actual Verizon account), no issues with 5G.
- Once you are activated and going, it just works. I have had no issues with the service that has required me to contact Infimobile once I was up and going.
- You can apply most promotions and sales to your current mobile plan and extensions (prepaid SIMs have mixed results for extensions, FYI).
Cons:
- They do nickel and dime you for anything past the initial activation. Want a new eSIM generated? Want to add Hotspot? Want pretty much any line/account change? Want to switch from T-Mobile to Verizon networks or vice versa? Got a new phone and need to activate the new phone? Each will incur a small fee.
- Customer service is the biggest issue in my mind. It's difficult to reach anyone and if there are issues it becomes a waiting game as they get back to you in 24-72 hours and then you play the elongated back and forth via email. Live chat is ok, wait times and response times vary and often once an issue becomes too difficult they kick you into the, previously mentioned, email loop.
- In very crowded/event environments speed does slowdown. It's still usable but you can definitely sense network priority is not with Infimobile (understandable).
- Account management in the website is clunky, the website doesn't send me SMS messages for my 2 factor authentication so I often have to contact Live Chat to get changes made and go through their authorization.
- No smartwatch support.

I honestly did not remember what happens if you try to do it through the Infimobile website directly, but I just tried it again. I only have an phone with a physical SIM slot, not an eSIM one, so I went that route. But after putting in my area code and the IMEI for the phone, I got the choice of either Verizon or T-Mobile (took a screenshot of this, but I can't seem to attach it). I suspect it would be similar for the eSIM purchase, too. But if you happen to be in an area where coverage by V is better than T, or vice versa, who knows if they would give you the option. But you could always just use an area code where your preferred network is strong.

On the Red Pocket side, you have to disable the port out blocker (or whatever it's called) and then explicitly request that you want to do a port out, at which point you are given your account number, the port out PIN, etc. This is all done on the Red Pocket website. Both of those steps require a TFA, so there is no way to get to this stage by accident.
After I did that, via a chat with Red Pocket customer service, they said everything should be set because I had done the two necessary steps to do a port out. Well, lo and behold, on trying to port in to Infimobile, they were saying Red Pocket was denying the transfer.
So I went back to Red Pocket and talked with another customer service agent who tried to convince me to not port out with alternate plan options, etc., but then finally gave in and said everything was set on their end. At that point, I went back to Infimobile, and the port in succeeded.
When this happened with the second number I tried to port over a few months later, I realized that this was not just an accident. Even despite completing the two active steps that require TFA to indicate one's desire to port out of Red Pocket, well, they still hold the number and only release it once you talk with a CS rep. This is complete BS, of course, but that's where we are.
Yes, for the third and fourth numbers I ported over, the same thing happened but I already knew what to expect. I feel bad for less motivated folks who might want to port out of Red Pocket, but get stuck when they put a hold on port out even though one has gone through all the necessary steps on their website to enable that possibility.
Regarding Amazon purchases being for new numbers only, I cannot verify this or not. The last Infimobile purchase I made through Amazon was a bit more than a year ago so I have no recent experience. But keep an eye on the Infimobile website directly because it has deals that Amazon does not, and vice versa. So while the 15GB/month plan is not on sale at the Infimobile website right now, it probably will be in the future. And at that point, you could definitely migrate over a number and not be forced to get a new number (if that is actually the case via an Amazon purchase).
GV doesn't work anymore.
TIA
Back to Red Pocket. Works every time.

The biggest issue is you have to use the number regularly or it'll be lost. I'm talking set an alarm every Sunday to text someone using the app or you'll lose the number.
