Community Reviews
This refurbished 14TB Toshiba enterprise drive is aimed at cheap bulk storage, but the current price sits well above past refurb pricing. The drive itself has a strong reliability track record in long running NAS and server setups, with examples of multi drive arrays running 24 7 for years and clean SMART health on a recent unit. Warranty support has also been handled through RMA for replacement. The main drawback is value, since similar drives were bought far cheaper before, and one drive from the seller failed after a little over a year with no warranty.
Enterprise HDDs from this seller reportedly ran 24/7 for 3+ years without failures or issues.
A similar unit reportedly showed 6 years uptime with 0 bad sectors and 29 emergency head parks.
Buying multiple 12TB drives reportedly provided enough NAS space for foreseeable future needs.
A prior purchase of similar drives reportedly worked out well enough to justify not paying new-drive pricing.
A drive reportedly failed after a little over a year with no warranty coverage.
Another seller reportedly offered the same drive with a 5-year warranty for $299, which undercuts warranty value here.
Future NAS expansion reportedly became more expensive after filling slots with sub-$80 recertified enterprise drives.
A helium leak reportedly caused a GoHardDrive 12TB drive failure, and the RMA process reportedly focused on replacement rather than refund.

Wish I could get a better deal for storing my Linux distribution archive, but sadly here we are.

I personally made the jump to RAIDZ2 (RAID6) because of the pricing. I went with 5x12TB, and I spent less than $80 per drive. At current pricing, replacing one drive will cost almost as much as the whole array. Plus, a few years ago it was common to get 3 or even 5 year warranties on these refurbished drives.Perhaps you are confusing the pricing of new consumer drives with used enterprise ones? I wouldn't argue with you about $100 for a new 8TB drive. But this deal is for refurbished enterprise drives.

Not urgent for me, yet, but my GF backs up to external drives. She last went from 12tb to 20tb, and is staring down spending $600+ to not have to split the 20tb backup's backup between 12tb and 4tb externals.
I did the goharddrive 12 tb deal for $75ish.. just had one die (helium leak..) .. I left gohd a ebay message and issued a rma after I sent a pic of the drive lable.. .. I made sure A replacement was coming and not a refund.. About that time I bought a couple 12tb wd external drives for backup.. one of those died the same week, but WD only has 3yrs warrenty andI cant find the reciept darn it.. btw the gohd had a 5yr warenty..

Nobody in this thread has been talking about new HDDs but you, and you didn't specify you were talking about new HDDs in your original comment.
