fyi new phones (including a new Air) being announced a week from wednesday
Rumor for fall lineup is iPhone 18 pro, 18 pro max, and ultra (fold). The 18 pro could start at $1299 ($200 increase from last year). 18, 18e, and Air 2 is rumored for spring. Let's hope they don't increase the price of the 17 but if so, this may not be a bad deal if you don't mind the single camera and smaller battery compared to the 17 which is $20 cheaper (pre-announcement).

phones are even more affordable (nearly free with certain deals) if you don't mind being 2-4 years behind the "latest and greatest" tech.
as a nice bonus -- i don't have the pressure of keeping up with/not breaking a $800-1500 device. yeah i know there's stuff like applecare, but i don't want to pay for that on top of the phone cost.
yes you can get the expensive phones "free" from carriers but i hate the feeling of being locked in to anything years.
