The phone is a decent choice (given it's a freebie, locked for a year, and a 2024 model) -
8GB RAM
128GB + SDCARD storage
5G + 3.5mm jack + 120Hz refresh screen

It is not a flagship, but those specs make it a very decent compromise!

This deal is back - it was around not that long ago.

This Moto G Power 2024 Tracfone bundle stands out as a budget 5G phone with unusually full specs for the price, including 8GB RAM, 128GB storage with microSD, a 120Hz 1080p screen, wireless charging, a 3.5mm jack, and a main camera with optical image stabilization. It also works well as a backup, Wi Fi calling, or media phone, and the included year of service adds value. The main drawbacks are the dimmer outdoor display, average cameras, and Tracfone activation and unlock rules that require careful handling. A solid low cost option if the service terms fit your setup.

Common Questions (6)

Yes. It can work fine as a Wi‑Fi calling/data phone, with mobile data used sparingly off Wi‑Fi. It is also described as a solid backup device and a good extra media phone once unlocked.
SUCHaDEAL KrysMarajh ScrumptiousBean monkeybiz
Unlocking is tied to the originally activated phone and its original SIM/service year. The phone generally needs one year of active service on that device before you can request the unlock, and moving service to another phone can prevent the original unit from qualifying.

Direct SIM swapping can cause problems, and Tracfone/Straight Talk usually want a service transfer instead. You can call to move the phone number and service info, or use Tracfone's transfer process to avoid issues.
Dorkasaurus Alpha__Omega Mizpookie AnciusD
The main complaints are the dim 500-nit TFT display outdoors and budget-level cameras, especially indoors and for video stabilization. Security updates are also reported to end in March 2027, so the software support window is limited.

It has 8GB RAM, 128GB storage plus microSD expansion, 5G, a 120Hz display, a 3.5mm headphone jack, wireless charging, and OIS on the main camera. It is positioned as a strong budget compromise rather than a flagship.

Yes. The included 1-year Tracfone plan is reported as 1,500 minutes, 1,500 texts, and 1.5 GB of data with unlimited carryover as long as an active Tracfone plan remains in use.

Sims are registered to phone when activated & unlock requires phone to use the original sim with new paid service for year.
Service can be moved and re-registered to a different phone (don't swap sim) but then the original phone will remain locked because it won't have had the required amount of service to qualify.

This has not been my experience. Once the SIM has met its one-year service term, you can request the phone-unlock.

I use this deal for location trackers (tracking dog collars, vehicles, etc). It's the best deal around for that purpose -- then after one year I re-insert into the phone and request the unlock.

"once the sim has met it's 1 yr term you can request the phone unlock" is correct - but as I said the unlock policy only qualifies the originally activated phone.
If you move service to a different phone the original phone will no longer unlock per the January 2026 changes to the unlock policy - it will have been deactivated & won't have had the yr of required service.

No one knows at this time how Verizon will interpret the new unlock policy until the end of January 2027 - but the way it's worded isn't the same as it used to be.

One question

By the time, your phone is eligible for unlocking, your service will be over. Do you have to extend the service a little more to request the unlock?

what is a good basic case for t his phone?

It's a matter of personal preference. Myself, I look for the thinnest, lightest clear tpu case that I can find. Having said that, the gimme cases that came with the QVC 2-pack were better than I expected so I've been using that for the past 9 months.

It seems like they are moving away from the unlimited minutes and texts with the new phone bundles. That sucks because I got unlimited bundles for 3 years. BOO! Anyone else notice this? The 1500 minutes/texts just does not cut it anymore!
