The Galaxy Z Fold8 stands out as a premium foldable that can get much cheaper with trade in credits and stacked rebates, with effective prices dropping to around $1450 or even about $1240 in one deal math example. Long term Fold ownership across multiple generations is described as smooth, with several reports of years of use, travel, and heavy daily opening without hinge or screen problems. The main cautions are the high upfront price, concerns about durability and repair costs, and the limited 256GB storage at this price. It looks best for shoppers comfortable with foldable upkeep and insurance.
Power users who want a large folding screen for daily carry, because long-term owners report years of use with no hinge or display failures.
The Fold line can hold up well with normal care, with multiple owners reporting years of use across Fold 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 without major hinge or screen failures. Reported weak points include inner screen protector wear, occasional hinge issues after drops, and the need for insurance or a good case if you want extra protection.
A case, insurance, and a screen protector are commonly recommended because the inner screen protector can peel and repairs can be expensive. One replacement ran about $80 without warranty, while a screen protector was described as a roughly $5 way to reduce scratches and usage damage.
The effective price can drop to about $1,450 with a very old trade-in, and one breakdown shows $1,239.99 when a $210 trade-in stacks with a $200 limited-time Amazon rebate. Check whether the rebate applies to your account before buying, since it can materially lower the total.
Agree. The price and durability just isn't there yet and anyone who buys any fold just as well add insurance to their cost because you'll use it eventually.
I had the original Fold, never had any hinge issue, and never broke or cracked the screen, then upgraded to the 3, then 5, and now 8. None of them ever gave me any kind of issue. My insurance a good case, all my phones have dropped from 5ft +, a good case and screen protector was all I needed. Again, none of my phones ever had any hinge issue, none of the screens ever cracked, and with the cases none of them ever took any physical damage. Every time I traded in my phone I always get asked, is this phone still new?
I always recommend to people to get the screen protectors they're only about 5 bucks, and that will save you from scratches, and any other kind of usage damage. The only thing I have on my phone that annoys people is my Star Trek communicator sound whenever i open my phone and I do that a lot on a daily basis.
Do you have a fold? Did you use a fold and had an issue? My household went through about 7 different fold models. Oldest one that we have is fold 3 we got 5 yrs ago and still works (though recently speaker has been an issue, we should upgrade). My son and I went from fold 3 to 6, my wife went from fold 3 to 5 (fold 3's hinge wasn't working right after she dropped it badly, traded it in for fold 5 and this was after 2 years of heavy use) Pretty much only issue we had (other than 1 hinge not opening all the way- will open to like 175 degrees not full 180) was the inner screen protector coming off. My older son, he replaced it recently DIY. When my screen protector started to come off on my Fold 3, I just took it off and used it as is for over a year before I upgraded it to Fold 6. So far, I am happy with durability of the fold.
Have a Samsung Flip 5 and a Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Had a Flip 3 that I traded in on the Flip 5.

Edit: I'm an idiot, didn't read title. Already stated.
$1649.99 - $210 trade-in (iphone 13 pro, 128gb) - $200 amazon limited time rebate = $1239.99 for the Z Fold 8. Just a heads up, try checking to see if you also have the same limited time rebate stacking on top of trade-in.

I've had folds for four years (fold 5 and fold 6) and they have always worked like the day I got them. If you treat phones poorly, no phone will last. The folds are awesome.

for this price, you can literally buy two MacBook airs M models on sale......
Can you add a phone line to the Air and stick it in your pocket? Jokes aside, long term iPhone user here, family all in iOS. But I'm thinking about getting the Fold8 so I don't have to carry around my iPad all the time. This thing looks promising if the software is refined and polished, as iOS.

I had the Fold 6 for 2 years. No issues, and near perfect condition (scratches here and there) until I traded it in for the Fold 8.
